Nice to open a book that I bought out of personal interest and find this. This is why my colleagues and I do what we do. It makes me so happy to read this. (From 'Central Europe: the Death of Civilization and the Life of an Idea' by @ljukic.bsky.social) @ghilondon.bsky.social

It is obscene and shameful to see Newnham Cambridge excluding trans women from fellowships. Nearly all the trans women I know in academia are precarious, and trans women are criminally underrepresented in every field relevant to the talent they have. This is pure nastiness (and that's the point)

Dear colleagues and friends,

A quarter of a century after its last major refurbishment, the GHIL is embarking on a new project to renovate and modernise its building. In a few weeks the builders will move in to make the public facing rooms of the Institute ready for the coming decades. 🧱🔨

Feministly arguing that people assigned male at birth are innately better at strategy games than those assigned female at birth. Sensational women’s rights movement you’ve got there.
IT’S FUCKING CHESS

What POSSIBLE advantage, even in the warped mind of a transphobe, could being transgender give you at chess? They’re so nakedly hateful they just can’t stand any trans person winning anything ever. Pathetic.

I think one of my main takeaways from #Bibliocon25 is that it's a fools errand trying to build sustainable research infrastructures, particularly on the national level, on the basis of projects with short-term funding and no clear idea of what happens after the end of the funding period.

Intrigued to hear at #Bibliocon25 about several cases in which "traditional" librarian roles have been replaced with media designers, in the context of library-based scholar-led OA publishing and as a research support role in a medical faculty.

At a library conference in Germany, attending my usual share of Open Research panels and I feel we’re still having the same conversations about OA and research data management that I was having 10 years ago when I started working on this at Cambridge (at least in the context of the humanities).

Weeding discourse - yet another topic that never seems to die. 🤦‍♀️ Why can people not accept that librarians know how to do our jobs and don’t just chuck stuff away for shits and giggles?
Opinion: “A total library would be a bibliographic nightmare, like Borges’s Library of Babel. But neither is a library a fast-fashion store. You don’t discard last season’s items because nobody wanted them.”
