Kind of this lovely #millipede to give us a clue to its identity - forming an "S" for Spirostreptida. Mount Cooke Area, Western Australia.

I love this trend of adding beautiful native #biodiversity murals around #Perth suburbs

Still #TeamVelvetworm but I couldn't resist the opportunity to share this little video of turtle #frogs - another wonderfully weird Aus animal.

Hello Scorpion King! Sadly bad acting and cgi but it has so much potential

I was trying to make a logo for something at work & accidentally created this... the start of a romantic comedy about 2 unlikely lovers - a dugong & a velvetworm. Or perhaps a unique wedding cake topper? 🤣

At long last (YEARS) my bug hotel finally has visitors. The big one is Megachile aurifrons and I think the small one is Megachile deanii. Megachile species are also known as leaf cutter or resin #bees

I'm amazed at how strong wasps are! Look at this one carrying a caterpillar across the garden, it almost looks like she's riding it sometimes 😅

I was very happy to see our first blue banded bee of the summer in our garden today. Bought some purple and pink flowers to attract them to the garden and luckily it worked 🙂

I couldn't find a good/clear photograph of the leg setae so this will have to do 😅 (they're a nightmare to image even with good microscopes). Admittedly this species has a lot more setae than most. I think the setae on the last article (C & D) look quite similar to the ones in the pics you shared.

We're very lucky in Western Australia, the wild flowers are stunning but lots of people still plant roses. These photos are from the botanical garden in Perth - to show how pretty they are &encourage ppl to plant native gardens

Happy to find 2 jewel #beetle species on the same branch today! Maybe because it's been hot and dry with few Myrtacea flowers around.
I think top species= Castiarina pallidiventris. Bottom=C. simulata
Flower=Melaleuca radula

(Correct me if I'm wrong BeetleSky 🙂)

If you see this, post something yellow.

This is Caladenia flava/ cowslip #orchid. It's endemic to the south west region of Western Australia, which is a botanical hotspot. They look bright and happy and are pollinated by #insects so I'm a big fan of them

Since it's Pollinator Week in Australia - here's a blue banded bee digging a burrow in my backyard.

Also timely since the blue banded bee won the first Aus Insect of the year Poll

Yesterday I saw these beautiful flannel flowers - the common name refers to their soft fuzzy petals. I think this is Actinotus leucocephalus (Apiaceae) from the Perth Hills,Western Australia.

They also had this awesome "old school" collections display. I love this display, there's just something special about seeing the real specimens
