Today and everyday I stand by my trans friends and colleagues. ❤️🏳️‍⚧️❤️
Post me from a different era. Aged 23 in 2002 putting the finishing touches to the neutron time-of-flight arrays for my PhD project. So wholesome.

Back to teaching this week so back to jazzy Thursday! This weeks effort was firework themed, black base and nail varnish pens for the detail. 🎆🎇

RIP my Eurofusion mug. It’s my fav mug for my morning cuppa and a hairline crack means it’s no longer viable 😭

Those quoted in that Times article who want what they call a merit-only system would struggle to explain how the pre-DEI domination of white men can be explained by merit alone. Unless they want to say that white men are smarter and better at science than everyone else.

Since next week is consolidation week (so no lectures) I needed to do my spooky Jazzy Thursday nails this week! The base is a charity nail varnish called “the blackest sabbath” where the proceeds go to Cure Parkinson’s. The stickers on top are spooky! Overall a Halloweeny treat. 🦇🕷️🕸️🧛‍♀️

This weeks Jazzy Thursday was an experiment! I did a dusky pink base and then used purple and pink nail varnish pens to get a leopard print effect 🐆🥰

This weeks Jazzy Thursday was a simple but very shiny affair. Just a couple of coats of the prism polish “help me, I’m feeling”. Liquid silver gorgeousness. Lots of the students playing along which is very wholesome 🥰

This whole obsession with "too many people going to uni" is such a classic example of the parochialism of UK policymaking. No one bothers to ask why the % here is lower than in most other developed countries or whether that might be relevant.

I always have a greggles brekker on Fridays as a treat. Finally treated myself to their reusable cup. Fits perfectly into the cup holder in my car 🥰

First jazzy Thursday of the season. I did magnetic nail polish from Prism (called “follow the screams”). A bit sparkly, a bit physics-y 🥰 🧲 💅

Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin ✨ figured out what stars are made of ✨ when she was just 25. 🔭🧪

Her PhD thesis basically established the Harvard astro department — at a time when Harvard didn't officially allow woman students.

I wrote this little profile to mark the 100th anniversary of her thesis:

Ah steps 🥰. My biggest regret at uni was not embracing steps. I was trying to be too cool for school that when steps came on I’d slump back from the union at listen to jazz. Insufferable 😂😂😂😂. #totp

I mean that cover of night fever by Adam Garcia was trash but I love that boy. He taught us tap at the festival hall when he was in hot shoe shuffle. Absolutely mind blowing for us teen tappers! 👯‍♀️👯‍♀️👯‍♀️👯‍♀️

Steve Shirley escaped the Holocaust as a child & went on to found one of the earliest software startups. The really impressive part? She employed women programmers who had been pushed out of the workforce after having kids, & allowed them flexible, family friendly, work from home jobs—in the 1960s!
