In 2024, Scotland's net electricity exports to England were 19.7 terawatt-hours (TWh). During the same period, imports from England were 1.3 TWh

So do you think, that considering the need for Scotland’s electricity, England just might want to sell some back at some stage?

price. If the English dominated government thought that Scotland deserved not to be penalised due to Englands use of gas, then they would have supported zonal pricing, but they didn’t. So you think it is fair that Scotland has to pay high prices because of decisions it has no ability to control?

and all those things increase the tax take helping to build hospitals, schools, fix roads etc. So this isn’t about being able to generate our own electricity, it’s about being in control of our own destiny rather than being penalised because we are in the union and England uses gas and sets the…

The point isn’t that we can produce 100% of our own electricity. The point is that we are being charged high prices due to being in the Union and our electricity prices would come down if zonal pricing was in place. That would reduce poverty, attract industry, increase consumer spending, create jobs

exports is still the same.

Well even if they are UK domestic companies registered in England, they would become foreign companies on independence. The section of company operating in Scotland would have to be split and incorporated in Scotland. If they had no Scottish office, they would have to create one.

The points about…

And of course, the UK average includes the better Scottish performance, resulting in a lower UK result, so it’s always skewed to compare Scotland’s performance with UK rather than the rest of the UK (rUK)

I think it also is required by WM so that there is an excuse to dump the waist material. It would be very difficult to explain why nuclear waist was being sent to a country that didn’t have any nuclear generation (future state)

novate, although many countries allowed a grace period to allow those new negotiations to take place.

So again, this often made statement that Scotland won’t be able to do xyz due to existing contracts is FUD

are with the UK government. If anyone is to be sued, it would be them. Same with free ports. Independence is not like a company taking over another company where contracts get novated. Like with Brexit, the existing EU trade agreements had to be renegotiated with other countries. They didn’t just…
November 21, 2025 at 9:47 AM
With regards to those contracts. Another often stated as fact is that those contracts will be binding post independence. Many companies had contracts with other EU companies based on being in the EU. Come Brexit, they had to change those contracts. No one sued the UK government. Further, the CfDs…

“Our [Octopus Energy] CEO made headlines recently when he said Scotland could have the cheapest power in Europe if the UK moved to regional energy pricing”

Another way to get zonal pricing - 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Independence

QED 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 independence will give 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 the cheapest power in Europe

How zonal pricing could make bills cheaper
How zonal pricing could give Scotland the cheapest power in Europe... and give everyone else in the UK cheaper power too.

So please, stop with the daft “Scotland doesn’t own the infrastructure” FUD.

The Scottish government doesn’t need to.

Otherwise, why would any country be bothered to export anything.
November 21, 2025 at 9:28 AM
thing called the balance of payments.

Further, exports pay for the domestic salaries, buildings, resources etc. it’s lie having your neighbour paying your staff costs. That all generates taxes. Your neighbour in effect paying towards hospitals, schools, roads.

Can choose to tax those dividend payments (withholding tax) and scrutinise the legitimacy of intercompany charges.

Further, exports generate foreign currency reserves. The UK governments exports nothing but US very keen to have companies export goods for that very reason. There is also that pesky

It’s a fundamental error that people make when they say “the assets are owned by a foreign company”. All companies operating in the UK are incorporated in the UK. Their parents may be foreign and cash may be extracted using things like dividends or inter company charges but fundamentally, the gov

under EU passport arrangements. Come Brexit, the UK branch has to incorporate as a British bank. Still called ABN AMRO but profits, assets and liabilities all held in the UK and regulated by the UK. That’s how all foreign entities work. ADIDAS in the UK is a UK company, not German.
November 21, 2025 at 9:28 AM
When a country becomes independent, the incumbent owners of infrastructure don’t just rip it all up and take it away. Companies and with their assets will need to incorporate in the country. That is what happened with Brexit. Go look at a bank such as ABN AMRO (Dutch) that used to operate in the UK

And also, are you saying that a) Scotland will not be allowed to trade with any other country and b) that the electricity currently exported to England will no longer be needed by England and so they will cut off the supply from Scotland and prefer to live in the dark?
