Today in capitalism destroys everything you love.
There's been a fundamental shift in trad publishing "mining" fic recently, because now they're actually like, smelting (? lol) it to sell it back to the fandom. These cover choices feel like clear winking signals—the connections back to the original are an actual selling point. And I do mean *sell*—
I have just seen the most blatant "reskinned fanfic" tradpub cover yet--so obviously Those Two Guys Off That TV Show, it's even more flagrant than the Adam Driver ones--and I just...don't think I understand the conversation that was had in the covers briefing meeting.
