Funny to me to hear Netflix's ultimate goal is to get what they call passive viewing, because that's pretty much exactly what broadcast tv had from the beginning.

Good thing with streaming is it's easy to cancel one service and switch to another. Used to be a nightmare if you had a cable or satellite subscription and ever tried to change anything.

Feel like a lot of don't remember they already tried turning CNN into a fox news clone, just a year or 2 ago. The lesson should've been that the fox news audience isn't going anywhere, and no other tv news audience wants that. New people at cbs seem determined to ignore the lesson

Perhaps Maduro is a bad guy. But I don't think he lured any dissidents into embassies to chop them into pieces, nor had any strangled in a South African hotel. Don't think he starved Gaza, invaded Ukraine or bombed 90+ fishermen in the Caribbean.

Holidays can ruin a perfectly good day off by forcing you to do all these rituals and traditions

There've been 3 times in comics history I know of where you had that magic writer/artist combination. Kirby & Lee on fantastic 4, siegel & shuster on superman, and then Laird / Eastman on Ninja Turtles. But paradoxically, I think Jim Lawson was still my favorite artist on that series

Coming near the end of 2025. I think that makes it the 30th year since both Gary Larson and Bill Watterson retired at the top of their game. Does it ever feel like it was all a dream? Like we could wake up tomorrow, pick up the paper and find Calvin & Hobbes and the Far Side as usual?

Like to read what Christians think about the movie Johnny Got His Gun. For me, Sutherland's role was the best portrayal of Jesus onscreen. Not an inscrutable prophet. More like a buddy. A guy you could play cards with, would listen to you, accept you, and there for you when everything else fails

The 5th Young One: Pay No Attention to the Girl Behind the Sofa
In the early hours of Saturday morning, ignoring the blare of children’s television, I muzzily and reflexively poked at the Twitter icon on the battered screen of my knackered phone. Down I scrolled t...

They were talking about the Mt Rushmores of 21st century music today... all I could think of was Lucero, Charley Crockett, Hayes Carll and Karen O.

It all reminds me of the passing the Phil Hartman. The circumstances were comparable. And immediately afterwards, a lot of us in the viewing started realizing how much we took them for granted.

After my tape player broke a month or two ago, I figured they're not selling a lot of cassettes anymore and I've heard all these a hundred times, might as well just donate them. Worked fine until I realized I no longer have any Ravi Shankar or Howlin' Wolf to listen to.

Saw Ecstasy. Seems like most condemned it as smut on release. Modern reviews acknowledge it's tame by today's standards but still tend to trash it. I was really surprised how good it was. Machaty sounds like a bit of a creep, according to Lamarr - still one of the most beautifully shot films ever

I know Dwight Yoakam's character in Sling Blade was an abusive jerk who, to a certain extent, got what was coming to him... But I have to say I really agree with his take on the Bible.

They're showing the early Perry Masons now. Same formula in the first episode as the last. But there was some evolution in how they did the character. In the earliest episodes it's kind of like the cops think he's a shady lawyer. It's almost noirish. I'm more used to him being this paragon of ethics
