Nature, folk horror, well - most horror if I'm honest, music, death studies. PhD in ancient burial practices. Now wandering the woodlands of Northern England.
I guess I better call up my gynae consultant ASAP and ask them about this - they definitely didn't tell me that if I choose a hysterectomy I will BECOME A MAN #Science

Loath though he is to alienate floating racists, perhaps Starmer could rouse himself to condemn a violent fascist rally teeming with people who want him overthrown and/or killed

I have yelped in shock and joy twice this week: once at randomly discovering a Lesser Purple Emperor butterfly on a bike path, and secondly on testing my rusty forensic skills on aging and sexing a skeleton in a museum and getting it exactly right. Hope you're all having equally nerdy weeks.

Simple neuroscience-based hack for anxiety:
🌿go & be in a place with plants & trees for 15 mins
🌳You'll inhale plant oils(phytoncides) from foliage
📉your stress hormone(cortisol) will drop significantly

Many of our brain pathways evolved to motivate us to forage for plants-they're still very active

Massive doh. Due to the Feb 15th RHLSTP being in Leicester, not Leicester Sq, I find myself a) heading for a weekend in London and no show to go to and b) with 2 tickets for Saturday to sell on! @herring1967.bsky.social maybe you can help me find someone who would like the Leicester tickets?

Thanks to all for your kind remembrances on this awful day. Words will come later. Only feelings at the moment. Mourn and remember him but don’t forget to celebrate too. We won’t see his like again. The man from another place has gone home. #DavidLynch #TwinPeaks

Word of the Day is ‘uhtcearu’ [ucht-kay-aru, with the 'ch' as in the Scottish ‘loch']:

Old English for ‘the sorrow before dawn', when you lie awake in the darkness and worries crowd your mind.

January is the season of the witch.

Prior to the Christian church taking over January 6th as Epiphany or 3 Kings night, this was the holy night of Berchta, goddess of winter, witchcraft, and animals.

Christmas is a haunted time in Ireland. The dead begin to walk from the 22nd December, as the sun strengthens so do they, momentarily. They may return to their former homes and hope for a place at the table or a seat by the fire until they depart to the otherworld on 26th December...

The first person recorded wishing someone "Merry Christmas" was Bishop John Fisher, in a letter to Thomas Cromwell #OnThisDay, 22nd December 1534.

"And this our Lord God send you a mery Christmas, and a comfortable, to your heart’s desire."

Happy Winter Solstice to all in the northern hemisphere.

The turn of the year's tide, a pivot-point, a day of hope—when the dark stops rising & after which the Sun begins its slow climb back.
A day I celebrate more than Christmas or New Year.

Fiat lux!
