Period life expectancy in the Netherlands is still below what it was before the pandemic (82.1 in 2019, vs 81.9 in 2024). If it had kept increasing at the same rate as in the 10 years before covid it would have been 83.5 years.

... total should therefore be about 3.3%, right? Now look at the same week on infectieradar.nl. It's 2.3%. So I think that means the infectieradar number is just the self-reported positive selftests, not adjusted for false negatives. Do you agree?

Wait a minute! If I compare the figure from the paper (below) with the infectieradar data series (next post), then it looks like the reported time series is only reflecting the self-reported selftests. In the paper, selftests are 2.3% in week 9 of 2023, plus almost another 1% from the -ves. The ...

All week we've been told there would be high winds today, so I was really surprised at how calm everything was as I walked home from getting my covid jab at 16:00. Rubbish forecast, I thought. Then 30 minutes after I got home I looked out of the window and the trees were almost horizontal.

Eind 2023 was de riool ongeveer 4100, nu 400. Eind 2023 was de piek in de infectieradar 3,6%, nu 0,3%. Dus de verhouding is dezelfde, toch?

Hot weather = go later on my bike.
Puncture = even later back. 20 minutes before sunset.

At least all those holidays to Spain have prepared me for dinner at 22:00.

Living in the Netherlands, you can save a bucket load of money doing your cosmetics shopping in DM in Germany. However, they never had shaving oil... until today! I was happy until I looked at the ingredients when I got home. Am I going to enjoy rubbing 'annuus seed oil' on my face?

This halibut was good enough for Jehovah.

It definitely wasn't the plan at the start of May, but 1673km sets a new personal best for km in a month. Also @garminuk.bsky.social - there's 4 and 3/7 weeks in May, not 4 - February is the month with 28 days.

Very nice beer, this one. Tastes like I imagine dedicating your life to God in the 14th century tasted like.

Only the third time ever I've gone over 500km in a week.

Passed 10,000km cycling for the rolling year today.

This should be easy in countries like the Netherlands because it's perfectly normal to have electricity sockets halfway up the wall...

It's been such dry weather here in March and April, I might be able to get my rolling year cycling total over 10,000km.

They say travelling is about experiencing things you don't have at home. I biked up this today. 48m climb over 300m. Average 16%.

I still don't want to get covid. I went out on my bike today and saw this view. Why risk that?

Small country mentality (dare I say post-Brexit?) on full display here. When it looked like England would win, the live commentary was all about England. When they lost... er, let's focus on the fact the Australian who played the winning innings was born in England.

@aurel.indoorco2map.com

Is it possible to delete a measurement? Just after I uploaded this measurement for Columbus in Scheveningen, I realised I was next door in Steam.

The Columbus measurement needs deleting.

In the Netherlands, places serving alcohol have higher ventilation norms. Looking at the indoor CO2 map, you can really see it. The red dots are coffee shops (actual coffee), the blues are mainly bars and restaurants selling alcohol.

How does this compare to the rest of Europe? Here in the Netherlands it looks like this year's flu season is following last year's almost exactly, rather than this year being a big one.

Passed the 8000km mark on the bike today. 70km/h winds weren't a lot of fun, though.
