We are excited to announce that Diane Rekow @drekowphd.bsky.social & Lukas Kunz @lukaskunz.bsky.social are the winner of the Schilling Research Award 2025. Both impressed the jury so much with their outstanding applications that the decision was made to split the prize for the first time in history
Call for applications for the Schilling Research Prize 2025 of the German Neuroscience Society. This prize is awarded by the GNS, biannually in the odd years, for outstanding achievements in the field of brain research. The prize of 20,000 Euro is intended to support young scientists up to 5 years after completion of the thesis considering individual conditions as specified in the DFG regulations. A prerequisite for a successful application is outstanding research work documented by publications. The candidate should work in a German laboratory or work as a German abroad. Both self-applications and nominations are invited. Applications from all areas of neuroscience are welcome. Membership in the GNS is not mandatory. The prize will be awarded at the Göttingen meeting ( 26 – 29 March 2025), where the prize winner will give a lecture. Applications must be assembled into a single PDF file and sent to the GNS office by email (korthals@mdc-berlin.de) no later than 15 October 2024. The application must include: 1. CV (max. 1 page) 2. List of publications 3. Summary highlighting the impact of the research (max. 2 pages) 4. A list of renowned researchers willing to provide a letter of recommendation on request.

I had an intern with afro hair (natural) and we tried it out. The cap needed strapping to press the hair volume down but the data quality (and neural responses) was perfectly in line with all other recordings!
She was so happy she could participate, she bought the lab a special comb for afro hair!

Today, I was asked by 2 lab members if we should exclude Afro hairstyles for EEG studies
It should not be an exclusion criterion for #EEG studies in #neuroscience. I've tested >200 participants with great signal quality—this exclusion is unnecessary and limits inclusivity

I'm always amazed when colleages tell me that they manage to get anything out of these AI image generators.
I am probably no giving the right inputs (no prob with chatgpt however) but this is the type of nonesense I always get!!
Happy to learn I'm actually not an outlier ^^
