Big news! 🥳
I'm thrilled to share that I'm finally launching my newsletter "The Interface"!

This is not gonna be your standard PhD productivity newsletter.

Here's what you'll get👇
All writing advice, scientific or not, comes down to nailing the answer to one question:

What does the reader need to know?
October 6, 2025 at 1:13 PM
Many PhDs don't ask me what they need to do to succeed in their PhD.

They ask if they should quit.

Yesterday I shared what successful thought leaders have to say about quitting, and how to know when you should push through or pivot.

Should I stay (in my PhD project) or should I go?

That's the topic of my newsletter tomorrow.

I'll help you figure out whether you should push through or pivot, and share what to do after you've made your decision.

There’s no cure to imposter syndrome, but it does get better when you realize others experience it, too.

That’s why I shared a vulnerable moment with the readers of my newsletter yesterday, plus actionable tips for owning your expertise and stepping up next time someone needs your awesomeness.
April 9, 2025 at 2:01 PM
I wrote a Science paper on a topic - then doubted I was "expert enough" to give an interview about it with a Master’s student.

🤯 Why is it so hard to own our expertise?

If you can relate, this newsletter issue is for you.

April started with a highlight for me: My client is submitting her PhD this month!

When we started, she was stuck - no structure, no motivation, no clear timeline.
Now? She’s unstoppable.
Here's her story 👇:

One thing I totally underestimated before starting my entrepreneur journey?

The amount of cringe things I have to do to get my business going.

Is this the „growth“ thing everyone is talking about?
Or just me happily throwing out my dignity? 😅

I guess I’ll find out sooner or later..🧐

Not saying no often enough is one of the biggest reasons for overwhelm and lack of progress. But it's not always easy to tell if something is an opportunity or a distraction.
Yesterday, the readers of my newsletter "The Interface" learned about an easy-to-follow framework to...👇

Got invited to a book project.
My ego screamed YES! My priorities said NO.

Saying no isn’t easy - but it’s key to staying on track. In today’s newsletter, I share a simple framework to help you decide what’s worth your time.

Unpopular opinion: Academia is obsessed with perfection—and it’s killing what science is really about: curiosity, exploration, and trial and error.

There's a lack of safe spaces in academia. And that’s a problem.

Not just for you, but for science itself.

It is fascinating to me how many things are so obvious once you understand them but you have to experience them first hand for them to click.

As every year, women's day was a stark reminder of all the areas where the playing field is still rigged. Academia is no exception, and boy(s) that makes me angry.

The more I work with #PhD candidates the more I am convinced that the number 1 thing they lack to thrive is community.
March 8, 2025 at 6:49 AM
„This wasn’t a course. It was a therapy session“, a participant said yesterday after my time management workshop for #PhD students 😍.

PhDs don’t need a bazillion tools to „manage themselves“. A clear vision for their life and career, a bit of strategy and a supportive community, and they’re good!

For "luck to happen" you don't need a ton of preparation.

Start to build, and do so in public and your "luck surface" might already grow a lot!

I prepared a little and got very lucky this week.

"I don't get enough career advice from my supervisor"...
...is a complaint I hear a lot of times when I talk to PhDs about their struggles.
But when I ask if they have shared their career goals with their PI the answer is usually "no".

So, here's the thing:

✨ define your goal
✨ break the work into tiny steps
✨ make progress visible by sharing it
✨ do it with others

Hey #PhDs, I have a question for you:
Who do you think is the main responsible person when it comes to decisions about your PhD project?
Is it you, your supervisor, or someone else?

My pony hardly ever does as he‘s told.
But whatever he‘s up to, he looks happy doing it.

There’s a lesson in that.
