You need to understand that there is both an officially licensed "Avatar: The Last Airbender" RPG where nobody is allowed to be the Avatar AND an officially licensed "Doctor Who" RPG where nobody is allowed to be the Doctor. The situation is dire.

One thing I'd add to this: Start your session by stating what you want. Eg "I want to test how combat works, especially the healing aspect. I'm trying to set the difficulty of combat and want combat to feel like you're just BARELY able to squeak by encounters." That way they're thinking about that!
