I’ve been thinking abt and missing my m grandmother recently as often happens at the holidays. And many of the memories are of special meals. And this has started me on a quest

Here is a picture of her as a young mother. I think at City Park in #nola. My mother is the baby being held #nolasky

Sometimes when my kiddo picks out books for bedtime he comes back with an “invisible book” which means we make up a story. These are the best nights. Tonight’s invisible story was about a horse named Boogers McPoop (not my idea) It was a riveting tale.
So yea, things are bad but then…

I see people complain that Bluesky is full of doom, but my experience is that it frequently grows my faith in humanity. Exhibit 1
Alright, team Bluesky: US foodbanks are about to have staggering demand when SNAP ends Nov 1st. We need to help them prepare.

I'll match donations: DM or reply with a receipt showing your own donation to a food bank of your choice, and I'll donate to match, up to a total of $500. 💪🥗🍲🥚🥧🥪🥣🥛

I don’t know if it’s my poor sense of direction or a lack of good geography ed but I always pictured Maine as north of NH. Like go up the east coast - NH-ME-Canada. It’s taken me years of living in NH to understand that Maine is east of me. I drive east to get to ME. North to get to Canada. #NElife

For yrs my blurb in prof situations “I’m from NOLA, GS in MS and then I was in Maryland for 7 years before moving here to NH x number of years ago” and then joke about steadily moving north w/ “nowhere to go from here … except Canada”. Haha. Except that last part isn’t landing the same these days

Just had this thought: without the benefit of watching Bugs Bunny and other classic cartoons, how are today’s kids ever introduced to classical music at an early age? #genx #xennial #musicsky #bringbacktheclassics

can this be used to increase vax rates if companies were to offer lower premiums for those who are vax’d? Like when there are lower premiums if you don’t smoke. Would that be allowed and at least get some people to decide to vax?
Maybe I’m too naive though regarding anti-vax sentiment?
My neighbor in Orlando mentioned this EXACT concern to me last night!

The thing about #Katrina20 is that it not only affected me but that it impacted 99% one I knew. My whole world essentially. In the aftermath I had no idea who still even had a home. It was collective and pervasive. Since 2005 life was split into pre-Katrina and post-Katrina for us. #nolasky

A few years ago my MIL gave me greeting cards she had saved from her youth. They are from the 1940’s and I’m so taken with them. I love the #vintage charm and the sweet messages written by long ago family.

@rickriordan.bsky.social I was listening to the audiobook of #Murderbot Diaries when my teen gave me a strange look. He paused and finally asked if I was listening to Carter Kane (KaneChronicles) We each looked at our audiobook and yep Kevin R Free is both - though MB uses a touch more swear words.

Did you know that if you grow up in the Deep South and then move north you will get confused looks (and laughs) if you comment that your child is doing a tumbleset?

I genuinely didn’t realize it was a regionalism. And it makes me mad because it really is the perfect word for that action. #nolasky

Fulfilled a long-time goal this past week of camping at Acadia National Park with the family. It was almost a week with minimal internet, news, and schedules among the majesty of #nature. It was such a privilege to have this opportunity to recharge before returning to … well everything #acadiaNP

Listening to book 3 in the #MurderBot series - a deadly enemy bot was described as 3 meters tall and covered with weapons. My US-educated brain briefly translated it to 3 feet tall and I pictured a humorously-sized foe before realizing its actually 9+ feet. Completely changed the vibe #booksky 📚📖

My phone was mostly full of bad news yesterday and then this. I finished book 1 and 2 of the #murderbot series and was given a 26 week wait for book 3 on the Libby app. But then boom! And the library acquired 92 more copies! I’m glad the series is getting so much love. #booksky 📚📖

My MIL passed recently and among her things is her 1945 kindergarten report card. I’m touched that she kept it all these years (including losing many possessions in H Katrina and years later downsizing to a single room when she moved in with family). Here’s a look at K expectations in NOLA in 1945
