New Orleans native living the New England life.
And surprise this note was written on the inside cover, “To my dear and best friend Noma. Love Eleanor”. Noma is my gm which just connected this back to the start. I still don’t have a mirliton recipe and now I’m homesick for the city that lives in my heart. But I’m also filled with joy. #nolasky

That led me to this cookbook which has been on my shelf but that I haven’t really paid much attention. No mirliton recipe but it is the Dover ed of The Picayune Creole Cook Book which is an unabridged publication of the 1901 second edition. I’m now obsessed with just reading it. It’s fascinating.

I’ve been thinking abt and missing my m grandmother recently as often happens at the holidays. And many of the memories are of special meals. And this has started me on a quest

Here is a picture of her as a young mother. I think at City Park in #nola. My mother is the baby being held #nolasky

Also if I don’t want to see any more news my Bluesky I can swipe right to an entire tab of birds. What other social media site offers that?

Last one for now of these #vintage cards. This one comes with a vocabulary lesson and some fun slang. I’m not sure of the date but I assume 50’s? The back doesn’t have much information except to say it’s: A Sommerfield “Jabberwocky” card.
May you all latch to a DDT and have a bday that is a Whizz!

Next card I’m guessing is the oldest. Early 40s maybe. The material is less cardstock feel and a bit waxy.
I think the wordplay inside the card is cute. Like dad jokes from the 40’s. But what I really love is the signing to baby from her grandparents.

Also the back shows it’s a Hallmark card copyrighted in 1945 by the Hall brothers. I never thought about it but I guess the bros are the Hall in Hallmark? Had the Hallmark channel done a Christmas movie on these bros? Where does Mark come in to the picture?

Like anyone from #nola, I’m grateful and awed by anything that has survived and kept safe through decades of hurricanes Here are a couple of my favorites of her cards.
A birthday card from 1945. This one has a stamp on the envelope with “Win the War”

Ohhh. Would you share which one? I’ve 17 weeks to go for book 2 in this series.

Fulfilled a long-time goal this past week of camping at Acadia National Park with the family. It was almost a week with minimal internet, news, and schedules among the majesty of #nature. It was such a privilege to have this opportunity to recharge before returning to … well everything #acadiaNP

My phone was mostly full of bad news yesterday and then this. I finished book 1 and 2 of the #murderbot series and was given a 26 week wait for book 3 on the Libby app. But then boom! And the library acquired 92 more copies! I’m glad the series is getting so much love. #booksky 📚📖

This section of my book case brings me such joy. Wild Sheep Chase was my first and Wind Up Bird Chronicles my second introduction to Murakami📚 ❤️ #booksky #Murakami

My MIL passed recently and among her things is her 1945 kindergarten report card. I’m touched that she kept it all these years (including losing many possessions in H Katrina and years later downsizing to a single room when she moved in with family). Here’s a look at K expectations in NOLA in 1945

Whelp. It looks like I have until May 5st to pay these tolls. I’d hate to be an illegal driver.

An hour from Boston counts, right? We can’t get enough of @gibsonsbookstore.bsky.social in Concord NH. Can you blame us with awesome displays like this? Plus awesome booksellers and coffee to boot. #indiebookstoreday #books

It plays at 78 rpm. It worked much better after I figured that out!

Decided to explore some of the older 10” #vinylrecords of which most don’t have sleeves.

These could be fun. The Adventures of the Lone Ranger. Copyright 1951.

They include:
He Becomes the Lone Ranger
He Finds Silver
He Finds Dan Reid

(I’m guessing that’s in order?)

Not familiar with Roger Whittaker but that is an impressive knit cardigan he is wearing on the cover. In what feels in contrast to this look songs apparently include hits like “Mexican Whistler” and “Dirty Old Town”. Will try this one later #vinylsky #xennial listens to #vinyl

#vinylrecords from MIL. Listening to this one now and it’s actually pretty fun. Just got to side b and grooving to Who’s in the Strawberry Patch with Sally. 🎶

More #vinylrecords in the collection from my MIL. After the 12 Humperdinck records, it’s probably no surprise to find some Tom Jones. Grandma loved Vegas!

First up, not 1, not 2, not 5, but 12 records by Englebert Humperdinck. Not sure it’s my musical taste but maybe these something in here worth keeping?
