DIE HARD is more of a Christmas movie than IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE.

I have reached the Scouring of the Shire in my biennial rereading/relistening of the Lord of the Rings and it is resonating like never before since the US has been taken over by bandits and ruffians in the form of Trumpers and ICE. We need our own scouring.

You can’t treat people as if you are at war with them without at least some of them deciding to make war back. Unfortunately, this understandable and even potentially reasonable response is exactly what these gestapo tactics are meant to provoke.

Abolish ICE

Every time I reread or relisten to the Lord of the Rings I snicker with delight when I get to the reference to the place in Middle-Earth called Wetwang. 😂 #LotR

Now that @plootube.bsky.social is following me I know my Lord of the Rings posts aren’t just going into the ether.

Mi abuela was horny AF for #RobertRedford. She called him “ese gringo guapo” (though she also called Alan Alda that).

I want the ghost of Tolkien to follow Lord of the Rings with another children’s story related to it like the Hobbit. This one would tell the story of Shadowfax getting back to Rohan from Rivendell on his own. Think of the adventures!

I know it is cliche to say “the book is better” but Malamud’s The Natural is better than the film, which has the wrong ending for a baseball movie. Baseball should always be a tragedy.

I’ve been relistening to the unmatched audio version of #LotR by Robert Ingliss, while rewatching Jackson’s films.

I stand by my opinion that the extended editions of both Fellowship and the Two Towers greatly improve those films, the theatrical cut of RotK is superior to its extended edition. #LotR

A random encounter table and a decent method for determining if you roll on it can lead to a great #DnD session.

This is the status of the PCs going into tonight’s session. Anyone who says #DnD5e is “too easy” has never played in my game. If you’ve been following along with these updates you know that the Prophecized Ones are always [this close]🫰to proving their own prophecy wrong. 😂

Game Night Tonight!

First time my in-person #DnD group is meeting since July 11!

We try to play every three weeks, but summer scheduling is hard.

Many folks are always looking for ways to simplify their #DnD prep. I, on the other hand, have given up, after years (decades?) of trying to find ready-made things to use and wasting a lot of time searching before finally adapting something to varying degrees or making it up myself.

What a drag it is getting old.

This remains my favorite podcast and the way Andrew Hickey starts with Frankie Valli, Frank Sinatra, and Jake Holmes to get us to Led Zeppelin is friggin' brilliant.
New episode out now!

Song 180: “Dazed And Confused” by Led Zeppelin, Part One, The Song Remains The Same

The first part of a two episode look at “Dazed and Confused” by Led Zeppelin.

Available to listen on Spotify, Apple Music and via Andrew’s website: 500songs.com/podcast/song...

I just ordered more minis from Etsy, because I have a mini buying problem (I don't have a mini painting problem, b/c I don't have a "pile of shame," always paint what I plan to paint, and have averaged over 200 minis painted every year for the last three years) #DnDminis #DnD #paintingminis

Today my toddler asked to see a picture of Steely Dan. Her current favorite band, overtaking They Might be Giants.

Some people prefer handwave the end of #DnD battles when there only one low CR monster left, but I like to see what happens and to give the players the satisfaction of surrounding the last one for a beatdown.

When you need to be prepared for a lot of possibilities in tomorrow’s #DnD session, I take some extra time with my DM staging area (which is my crafting area the rest of the week).

I definitely wouldn't call myself a "lazy DM" - I write several pages of prep for each adventure or region to use as a backbone for the many ways I will be called on to improvise based on once the PCs start messing with it - but I understand the need for "lazy" tools.

My friends and I have a weird way of playing #DnD remotely. We use Zoom, but then supplement with Owlbear Rodeo for maps used in exploration mode, but then switch to a table camera with a battlemat, scenery/scatter terrain, and minis for combat.

I wanted a galeb duhr mini for my #DnD game, couldn’t find one I liked, so went ahead and made one.
