It has taken medical science 200 years to advance humans to the point where people are so healthy and living so long that they can deny that science and medicine is what got us here.

Please highlight this story.

ICE stormed into the wrong house, trashed the place, and made women/girls stand outside in the rain in their underwear. ICE also stole phones, laptops, and cash savings from the family, who moved to OKC two weeks ago.

The sheer volume of time and energy being spent by thousands of university-based researchers in *every* field right now to figure out if their funding will exist next month or next year, if their careers can even continue… just citing dollar values doesn’t do it justice, it is full-scale upheaval.

You look at science (or at least talk of it) as some sort of demoralizing invention of man, something apart from real life, and which must be cautiously guarded and kept separate from everyday existence. But science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated.

Every Sunday morning - as I'm awake much earlier than I hope to be - I look forward to reading my NCBI "What's New in x" - new pubs matching my saved searches in PubMed that get pushed to my email - studies pertinent to my research. No updates this morning... no PubMed, no ERA, no IAR. #NIH

Hi friends,

I probably won’t survive the next culling. Let me know if you know of people hiring people like me!

I’m a nurse & scientist with experience in academia & managing research teams. I love mentoring & all things science, particularly related to health 👩‍⚕️
Already bruised by the Trump administration’s first round of firings of federal workers, employees at NIH faced more bad news. NIH’s 27 institute directors were told this week that the agency must cut staffing back to 2019 levels, or at least 10% below its 2024 tally. scim.ag/3EP8gjy
