He says “some sort of UBI“ which sounds like NIT in practice.

Don’t ever see an unconditional homogeneous payment to all.

Say you make UBI same amount as universal credit, would cost >£200bn

Fully agree with @stephenkb.bsky.social that an apparent broadening of Reform's camp only helps them, gaining from the centre without losing hard/ far-right with nowhere to go.

Labour should not re-emphasise their 'New Tories' image.

Tories should be glad Suella Braverman has gone to Reform
But Kemi Badenoch refuses opportunity to argue that Reform opposes many of her party’s finest achievements

Andy Burnham replaces KS as PM. Then what? Policies that aren't that different. What big, voter-salient wins could he get in 3 yrs? Might be better/ more credible waiting for LOTO job.

Doesn't give an actionable suggestion to back up his criticism of Euro response (which argubly has shown a unified pushback). Reasonable minds can disagree on the precision of language/ policy response etc.

Bit rich coming from a '24 sen. dem who seemingly did not know how to deal with DT then 😩
At Davos, Governor Gavin Newsom said European leaders were “complicit” and “pathetic” in how they handle President Trump, adding that he should have “brought a bunch of knee pads for them.”

Possibly the biggest hit ever.

Most-played song in radio history (per multiple sources) + the most-streamed pre-2000 track on Spotify's 50 most-played songs. Truly multi-generational.

begs for a peerage, gets denied, defects to a party led by someone he said he'd be scared to live under all whilst declaring the britain he spent 14 years building is broken.

ayayaya. no words.
2026: Nadhim Zahawi, "I'm joining Reform.. Britain is broken, I'm convinced Britain needs Reform UK.. It really needs Nigel Farage as PM"

2022: Nigel Farage, "I thought Zahawi had principles.. Tonight we learn he's just about climbing that greasy pole as so many of them are"

Bit of a collective action/ prisoner's dilema problem for the gov with this one, especially as I don't see Reform/ Tories following suit.

More importantly. How much of the 6% levy can be passed on? I think most of it.

Because it's fees not living costs/ other spending, its impacts on the total cost of going to uni/ year will be <6%.

Plus it would make sense that int students will be more demand-inelastic.

3.6% average decrease across ind schools by the way. 1 in a class of 30.

No 'mass exodus'. Estimated to raise £1.5bn/ yr from 25/26.

Expanded access to free school meals will benefit 1.7 million children in the long run and cost £1bn/ yr (IFS).
Girls’ schools are losing pupils faster than the rest of the private sector since Labour put VAT on fees, a survey has found

Almost 17,000 pupils have left independent schools since September last year, with boys’ institutions suffering less

Surely he has to be sacked now. Position seems completely untenable.

Or is Starmer concerned that doing so is perhaps somewhat tacitly condeming Trump and is concerned of the repercussions of that?

Also worth considering the 'trickle-up' effect.

Analysing four Danish elections, Dahlgaard found that when Danish children reach voting age, their parents vote more!

The study found 1 in 9 previously non-voting parents are mobilised.

Only see this splitting green/ lab vote, not sufficiently mobilising non-voters. GE turnout only decreased from 67 to 60% between 2019 and 2024, that’s a limited pool. Many likely disgruntled tories plus JC slowly abandoned post-2017 and at next election he’ll be older than inauguration Biden.
