A very lovely night even with city lights. The sky was unusually steady for an hour or so and Jupiter and Mars views were among the best I’ve ever seen. I also said a likely goodbye for the season to the Orion Nebula, and also got nice views of clusters M48 (Hydra), M35 (Gemini), and M37 (Auriga).

Remember, when the Moon is new, that’s because all the pieces have finally gone back into the puzzle box, and it shows up as a crescent first because that’s the easiest part to assemble.

One thing I do a lot of: amateur astronomy. Last night I was outside with my trusty 12.5” Dobsonian looking at Jupiter, some star clusters (M35 in Gemini and M36, M36, and M 38 in Auriga), and the Orion Nebula. Still a lot to see with a 12.5” scope even in the city!

Still trying to figure out what sorts of things I'll be talking about most often, so, in the meantime, have a cat.
