The “Winter Storm” couldn’t keep me from the park this morning after my trip out of state.

Sore back and shoulders had me feeling a bit like Frankenstein’s monster, so that (and the weather) made the Edgar Winter Group seem appropriate for today.

18 down. 82 to go.

Soggy morning in the park, but I had Oingo Boingo to keep me company. Even back then, his genius and fearlessness was obvious.

The next few workouts are going to be away from the park, as I travel. So maybe from a different park? Or a hotel room?

It’s going to be a great day.

No one's blaming Democrats for causing this crisis, but yes, many of them are failing to meet this moment.

One Democratic senator could bring the chamber to a halt. House Dems can go to fed agencies being gutted by Musk with cameras in tow. Governors can push back. State AGs can bring lawsuits.

I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad.

There’s not.

A man who has shown himself to be deeply sympathetic to Nazism might now have all of our Social Security numbers. That is a statement that would have seemed like absurd liberal hyperbole a few years ago, but is now just a neutral statement of fact.
Billionaire Elon Musk and his DOGE agents were reportedly granted full access to the Treasury’s federal payments system, and nobody knows to what end.

It's going to be really funny when a 25% tariff translates into insanely high price increases, as companies all in unison go 'well, the tariffs are a good reason for us to charge more for our services' at every level between the cargo ship and the consumer.

Shock Doctrine, accelerationism, high emotions, lots of reactionary cannibalising shit from both liberals and leftists...and I dont see a single video of Blue MAGAts and liberals taking an OUNCE of responsibility for why the Dems lost. "Maybe we really fucked up on Gaza" would suffice, but nah.

One thing to consider right now is that people are censoring themselves online for all sorts of reasons. So instead of jumping on someone who isn't articulating themselves as radically as you'd like to see (never really a great approach imo) now is an extra good time to not do that and instead /1

Clear & very cold at the park today, and a few guests joined me.

Music by the incomparable Dartmouth Aires, who did two of the greatest live performances I’ve ever seen on season 3 of The Sing Off. Huge respect.

It’s going to be a great day.

Well, shit.
This is the first tough one to let go of.
Spotify is drawing attention after the company hosted a Trump inauguration brunch featuring Joe Rogan and Ben Shapiro, among others.

The streaming giant also made a $150,000 donation to the new president's inauguration ceremony.

This is the one major thing I’ve heard about Musk from everyone who has interacted with him: he is utterly compassionless.

I don’t really care what deeper meaning his Nazi salute held - he still did it. It doesn’t matter that he holds so many directly competing views because he DOESN’T CARE.
Julie Gray, wife of Holocaust survivor Gidon Lev, who joined Musk in his visit to Auschwitz speaks out. She says that Musk felt nothing during the tour & only "cared about how he looked."

She shared this with me privately shortly after the tour, and I'm grateful she made her thoughts public.

You won't believe this. My team and I make this show called SciShow that works hard to be rigorous and accurate while also being appealing and entertaining.

We reach a LOT of people every year with episodes about crabs and neutrinos and gender and cancer and vaccines.

It's great, I love it.

Time for some Van Halen to keep me warm.

Welcome Gopher, who came back to join me today.

Did you lose a backpack at Bear Creek Park picnic shelter?
I didn’t open it, and left it where I found it.

See you Friday!
