I’m posting on Threads now and will be spending less time on BlueSky. Hopefully I’ll see some of you there!

I saw an interview the other day where an author said you shouldn't build up a side character and make the readers like them, and then kill them off in the next chapter. Well, then, how many chapters should I wait? Fuck it, I'm knocking them off in the next chapter.

My new Under the Fedora blogpost features Fundamental Advice for Writers. What?!? Are you kidding me?? Haven't we all had enough with the tired old writers advice conversation? Well, maybe. I tried to make this a little different, though. Check it out:

This Goodreads review of A Troll Walks into a Bar might be the most complimentary 3-Star review I’ve ever received 😁

My latest drabble (100-word story) is up on my Under the Fedora blogsite. It's called The Honorable Boxer, and it may or may not be an allegory. Check it out if you've got a spare 30 seconds: douglaslumsden.substack.com/p/drabble-45...

Rita and I dropped by our local No Kings Day demonstration. Biggest turnout I've ever seen for a demonstration in our sleepy little town!

When asked about the all-time great hardboiled private detective characters, it's easy to bring up Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe. But what about Tex Murphy? What about Nick Danger, Third Eye? Truth is, those two have stuck with me as much as anybody😎

I prompted Word Copilot to write a 100-word noir fiction. This is what it came up with. I'm thinking best-seller!

Yesterday I got the double jab of flu and covid shots, both in the same arm. Pretty much painless, and absolutely no problems today beyond the tiniest bit of stiffness in that shoulder. Actually no worse than some stiffness in my other shoulder from being 73 years old.

I watched Season 1 of Supacell and enjoyed it a lot. Superhero blaxploitation in a London setting. Terrific neo-noir elements. Over-the-top in a good way. I wanted to slap the lead character upside the head for not being upfront with his girlfriend, but that’s what people do.

I'm for this.
Instead of seven months with thirty-one days, they should take six days away to make them an even thirty. The extra days would go to October for a new week-long Halloween.

This series is called GUNmetal Gods for a reason. There are guns! But did you know there are also elephants? And GUNS on top of ELEPHANTS?

Morning Funny People ☕🙃

This Week's Tuesday Title: A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny

As Halloween approaches, Snuff the Dog and his fellow familiars search through a tiny Hamlet in the countryside to determine who the players in the great game are...and where their allegiances lie.

I really enjoyed Nero the Assassin. Nicely layered dark fantasy, and Nero is a terrific amoral in-it-for-myself antihero. I really hope there's a Season 2.

I did 90 pushups this morning! I've been doing 3 sets daily (one set before breakfast, lunch, and dinner) of 80 pushups every day of the week except Saturday (my no-exercise day). Up from 3 daily sets of 50 at the beginning of the year. I'm hoping to hit 100 by the start of 2026.

I saw it again in a TV show last night, and it drives me crazy! CPR heart massage will NOT force water out of a person's lungs or restore their breathing! It won't (except in rare cases) restart a heart, either. CPR is a stopgap measure used while waiting for a defibrillator.

Last night’s October supermoon rising and shining through the tree outside my bedroom window. It’s possible that I might be a little obsessed by the moon.
