Last month everyone at home were sick. This month it’s just me who has a cold that just doesn’t go away, kinda have to accept this now being in my 30s! 😩

I felt the same for a long time, learning to trust yourself that you can do something unique and not feel intimidated by other releases takes time, at least for some of us :)

We often say in my team that we just fail our way to production and I quite like that. Early logic will explode here and there and that’s fine. I often tell more junior people to just accept this as a fact instead of trying to make things perfect from the get go, it won’t happen 🥸

The came case combined with snake case makes this harder to read than it should

Yeah that is the big one, even the big wigs at EA left because of this (at least that’s what the CEO of Embark mentioned in a podcast) and then the studio went on to make Arc Raiders, this seems to happen at all levels not just developers, fluidity and flexibility is crucial I agree

It will be more fulfilling because nobody is questioning your ideas and you do what you want, you call the shots, but there is a thing or two to be said about collaboration and idea sharing.

It simply depends what success is relative to your circumstances - being money or anything else.

If you manage to find a workplace and a career that you like, you will feel less pressured to build a game to sustain yourself, which would lead to a better game overall in my opinion.

As for success, depends how you measure it but I would say to cover your financial obligations* for a while.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I needed it for dungeon building but there was no sidescroller example I could find. I already got my proc gen working fine but for the sake of understanding this better, I could look into it again.

That’s the creative in you thinking like that, with AAA, the shots are called by people who are concerned more with sales and just making money as a whole and those people are usually far removed from what the player actually wants and the indie games fill that gap. At least that is my observation.

I did my proc gen with prefabricated rooms that are assembled using a graph and then the graph is used as a blueprint to generate the levels.

When I was looking into this, WFC looked like an alternative but I couldn’t find any practical examples with games being made like that. Thanks for sharing!
