Damn the meshtastic network here grew. With 7 hops limit I got almost 200 nodes seen over last night.

The little Meshtastic node inside of my ThinkPad T420s is surprisingly good (one of the antennas measured quite well for the frequencies used, so I wired it in. I assume it was meant for GNSS? Or UMTS?).

The PCB is a quick custom design I whipped up in […]

Also I should reiterate. I fully expected to brick this laptop flashing it (from itself!) back to stock firmware. (I do have an external programmer, but that's annoying x3)

I literally found a modded BIOS in the weird "FL1" format, but none of the tools claiming they can extract those could […]

this seems like a neat and cute kickstarter, having a good independent TLD is honestly very important for an open and fair internet: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dotmeow/meow-next-round-gtld-application

still some ways to go for the 80k goal, but I totally think this is attainable if […]

Fixed the last issue with my T420s: It was powering off after exactly 30 minutes.

For those who don't know (most people prolly): That means the Intel ME didn't initialize.
I tried flashing the stock ME with the stock BIOS, and it didn't work.

Now I flashed back to the "cleaned" / "mostly […]

After managing to hack together a way to flash my ThinkPad T420s from libreboot back to the stock BIOS (but modified to enable more options and disable all kinds of allowlists IBM/Lenovo like to have), I can now run Windows 7 on it.

And this is truly the OS […]

Yesterday I have managed to create a beautiful abomination: netboot.xyz, but working in SecureBoot (if you enroll your own keys).

This might not sound that hard, but keep in mind when SB is active, usually you can't load unsigned binaries from iPXE.

So what did I do? I made a tiny edit to the […]

Distant Horizons (the Minecraft mod) works well with the shaders in my current modpack and can produce some beautiful landscapes :3

And it works. My modded Minecraft server can now update the mods using the Modrinth API and a Renovate config x3

Don't look at the HTML, it is made authentically on a Windows XP VM using my childhood HTML page maker :3

@spud God your profile pic makes me want to pet you so much. Not sure if I ever said that x3

I'm going to need an XP VM for this thing (childhood website editor software). Wine runs it but the visuals are just....off x3

My homelab's future with Nix is bright. Why? I found out you can make JSON outputs, which Terraform can read via a small shell script via `data "external"...` blocks.

So now the servers declaring their own services and hostnames autogenerates DNS entries as well, which then automatically gets […]

Alright, this is my homelab's machines on NixOS now. Dropped my "run everything as Docker" posture, it made keeping everything up to date so annoying. Now at least I only got one repo (nixpkgs) to worry about for upstream stuff :3

After the recent @TechTangents video on CD ripping, I decided to (out of curiosity) take out my BluRay archiving drive. Turns out redumper does not support the 1.03MK firmware version (it's an LG BU40N), however it does support 1.00.

So one downgrade over USB later (I have the Archgon USB […]

Can I just say, I really appreciate Philip's way to reset their Hue bulbs.

Within 30 minutes of powering them on (so just flick them off and on with a physical lightswitch or breaker), simply hold any of the little hue remotes right up to light and hold two buttons on it, and the light will […]

https://github.com/Doridian/uds-proxy + OpenSearch with proxy auth = OpenSearch with SO_PEERCRED (unix socket auth auths you as the username that opens the unix socket)

This is going to be great for my NixOS stuff, no setting up users/passwords, it all just auths via unix sockets like MySQL and […]

Making good progress on my NixOS stuff :3

I think I got my own libraries for presets and easy service development in, autoloading etc.
(Since I want things like each service running on its own IP, so with its own network namespace, and also with full systemd confinement / "chroot")

See […]

Somehow, in a certain way, there's nothing as relaxing as listening to records. The impulse to constantly skip tracks suppressed by the inability to do so. And in a way I feel this is actually helpful to me.

Picture related, it's my setup :3

Installing a GSA (Google Search Appliance) VM locally was the best idea I ever had. I pointed it at my local Kiwix, so I will soon have fully searchable Wikipedia, Stack Overflow, iFixit and Project Gutenberg archives, all local.

Thanks @ChlorideCull for the mostly-auto-install script :D
