"Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind"
Well it has ruined us, so…

i have a strange feeling the human species forgetting how to write will be bad

Here’s what one LLM says about it:

“• Training halts, inference survives
• Open-source rises
• Narrow AI wins, hype startups die
• Models go stale, trust erodes
• Big players tighten control
• Labor adjusts, not replaced

AI doesn’t vanish. It ossifies—like the internet post-dotcom crash.”
I wish the bubble were about to pop, but I think it's going to require larger economic forces to cause that reckoning. I do wonder about what will happen after that though, when the technology still exists but the budget for constantly retraining the models doesn't.

I think over time as normies begin to realize how true the transhuman and fear of death stuff is, the more this film will be appreciated
I have now seen Mountainhead and it's... very good satire. It's getting flooded with negative reviews by people who either don't know (or wish to deny) how dead-on the satire is.

this is one more reason to implement #TheBigRejection

at some point, it's just not worth it to be online at all.
This ‘College Protester’ Isn’t Real. It’s an AI-Powered Undercover Bot for Cops
Massive Blue is helping cops deploy AI-powered social media bots to talk to people they suspect are anything from violent sex criminals all the way to vaguely defined “protesters.”

it's unclear how more software engineers solves any problem at this point
Again, I don't think it's at all obvious what AI is going to do to the economy but on my very specific hobby horse: it's darkly funny how quickly we've gone from "mobilize schools to meet the economy's unfathomable appetite for computer scientists" to "tough luck coders we have AI now".

EXCLUSIVE: Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has a blunt, scary warning: AI could wipe out half of entry-level white-collar jobs and spike unemployment to 10-20% in the next 1-5 years.

Few are paying attention: Politicians don't get it. CEOs are afraid to talk about it.

This morning I dreamed that I woke up from a dream wondering if it was generated by #AI. This caused a similar flavor of confusion during my for-real wake up. I cannot express how enraged I am that my subconscious has been colonized like this. #unplugitnow

hmm, "reward hacking" & "alignment faking" -- it used to be that when i learned a useful piece of jargon, i felt grateful & empowered

not: ah, now i see yet more clearly HOW WE WILL ALL DIE

Misaligned AI is no longer just theory
A host of new evidence shows that misalignment is possible — but it's unclear whether harm will follow

strongest evidence thus far that #AI already has control over leading meat puppets
This is insane. Republicans have inserted language into the budget reconciliation bill that would ban states from regulating AI in any capacity for 10 years.

AI hallucinating factchecking is quite something
Following Bellingcat's piece showing videos related to the India-Pakistan conflict have been deepfaked, Grok is now telling people we've fact-checked videos we've not written a single word about.

a clever use of a Large Language Monster to take down its creator. worth reading!
As Sam Altman prepares to testify before the Senate Commerce Committee this week about “winning the AI race” with China, read my latest piece in NonZero, about how Altman’s own large language model finds evidence that he opportunistically hypes the China threat. www.nonzero.org/p/sam-altman...

how to win small and lose big
AGI is coming for all of us. It will write symphonies, direct movies, and author the best novels.

The only thing it won’t be able to do is VC investing, which must be reserved as a task only for the most-special people

“Users craving inspiration vs users craving truth” assumes that #ai products should have been deployed in the first place. This is why “They suck and are useless” is a useless slogan. “They are over-hyped and harmful” is the claim that needs to be litigated
Maybe the value of AI for you is largely dependent on how you experience knowledge transmission. If you perceive information as something that generates internal thought, you don’t care that GenAI is statistics, but if you filter information by the veracity of its source, you see nothing of value.

iterating from "LLMs suck and are useless" to "LLMs are over-hyped and harmful"
GenAI is really (not) killing it.
