I teach philosophy at USF. Inclined to talk about consciousness, faith, nature, and my kids. I have a website, but I don't update it as often as I should. https://www.doloresgmorris.com
Took a quick walk today & saw so many warblers! If Merlin's sound ID was correct, this was a pretty large flock of yellow-rumped.

This year, more than any other, I've seen a huge variety. Palm, yellow throat, yellow-rumped & black & white...all in the last month or so!

Much love to the parents doing camp enrollments this morning. One camp down (9am, success!) one to go (10am, here's hoping!)

What a weirdly stressful process.

Last night, we hosted a pack of kids for pizza & cake for our daughter's 13th birthday. They spent the afternoon at the local theme park, then landed here.

When it was time for cake, I couldn't find them anywhere. I'd lost a whole party's worth of kids.

Reading this & struck by this passage.

Is this why I, a professional philosopher, am at least as inclined to post about birds & lizards as I am academic papers?

Or why my own first journal publication was in Caribbean Herpetology?

It certainly lends a lofty spin to my quirks. (I’ll take it.)

Bird names always manage to make me feel foolish.

Me: What is this bird? It’s completely black and white, looks like a warbler, but it acts like a nuthatch!

Absolutely not.
A sad truth we all need to accept is that Smashing Pumpkins were clearly the best of the big-name 90s alt rock groups

I attended an event last night at a private club. Very elite, very swanky. For the longest time, I could not find the required valet parking .

Turns out, google maps had taken me to the service entrance.

Reasonable inference given my data, but this felt rude.

This fierce child turns 13 today! As a tiny one, she insisted on wearing dresses as strongly as she insisted on being outside & in the dirt. Now, she breaks boards with her feet (& hands!) and requested makeup & bath bombs for gifts.

She is pretty amazing. We are thankful for her.

Giving it a try! Why not start with something nice: my walk yesterday, with my most excellent dog.
