Making some fresh models to sharpen my 3D skills, and what better subject to do that than our lovely brazilian Pleistocene megafauna?

Well-preserved Triceratops skulls have a sharp falloff on the rear frill from a vascular texture to "scooped out" cavities. It is likely these cavities were filled out by neck musculature. Many reconstructions overlook them, ending up with necks that are prorbably far too skinny.

Black Rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis)
6x9" watercolor and gouache painting

Trying to sketch with gouache more, because I currently find it really frustrating to use...
Not sure if anyone's tired of seeing rhinos, but I'm not :]

White Rhinoceros mud bath
Another with powdered graphite. Quickly sketched with pencil, with all of the tones applied with a sponge for smooth marks, crumpled tissue for some grass texture, highlights with an eraser. Basically practicing laying out a scene relatively quickly without too much detail.

Last night, I watched one of the best nature videos I have ever seen, from Cornell Lab of Ornithology. I have been in love with hornbills since I lived in Indonesia and Malaysia and saw them every time I went out in the jungle.

You really owe it to yourself to watch this.

Really happy with this little guy. The stone came out so beautifully blue in the end, and the deer antler idea worked out great.

I can never think of names for these little animal sculptures, got any ideas?

My allonautilus portion of the painting is finish. Now I just need to add three big atomic diagrams before I can call it done.
