Thank you for clarifying this. It sounds like the scene was chaotic -- AND that ICE was determined to grab Mayor Baraka in particular.

Evidence of anyone occupying a guardhouse. There is plenty of evidence the statements from DHS & Alina Habba are total BS.

I compiled this from the AP article linked above & video clips posted by activists on the ground with @maketheroadnj.bsky.social

This was the point at which Rep BWC was shoved out of the way & Rep Menendez, with several activists, rushed to mayors aid to prevent him from being pulled back into the facility.

To be just as clear, there is no evidence of a truck or bus with detainees arriving nor is there

Protesters on public property.

Mayor Baraka (outside the fence now) was warned by someone inside the fence they were coming to arrest him. The mayor responded “I’m on public property”.

Shortly after, masked ICE agents came outside the fence, grabbed & handcuffed Mayor Baraka.

It was understood, at one point, that the mayor would be allowed to accompany the MOC into the facility.

The delegation was stopped inside the fence & told the mayor was not allowed inside. At this point they went back outside the fence to join the

You can’t determine if someone is a migrant without a hearing. No due process means they can snatch anyone off the street, say they’re a migrant and send them to Libya.

The headline is deeply misleading. You can’t suspend habeas corpus just “for migrants.” As we’ve seen, ICE will pick *anyone* up. If you have legal status but no right to habeas corpus, you’ll have no ability to challenge your detention or deportation. Suspension for some is suspension for all.

Ah, I don't know if it worked quite like that. It was more that the refugee community was already hanging out?

The real-life refugees of 'Casablanca' make it so much more than a love story
Casablanca is more than just a love story. It is a film about, and stocked with, the waves of refugees fleeing Nazi-occupied Europe during wartime.

They were actors who were actual refugees!! Hollywood was *full* of refugees at the time, including some of the cinematographers and directors.

I’m always struck by the realization that in 1942 when Casablanca was written and filmed, no one knew how the war would turn out.
And by the fact that some of the actors singing were real-life refugees from the Nazi advances.
