I think the hint of truth in the populism argument is that the Democrats need to get closer to the people. But the solution to that is partyism, not populism. There need to be party third spaces like sports clubs and mutual aid networks. Creating a shared identity matters in this age of loneliness.

There are many things, but a good first step would be getting a library card, and seeing what your local community is like. If you can, join up with your local dems and help them out.

The "media" isn't scared of trump. Journalist are scared of trump. Media organizations like cnn couldn't care less and will report on whatever gets the most ratings. Like they have and continue to do so.
