In a sick twist of fate my period-correct FireWire cables are bad and I have to jiggle them the right way to avoid resetting the FireWire bus. Back to waiting for more cables 🫠🫠🫠
When analyzing FireWire packets on a blue and white powermac G3, make sure you use period correct transparent FireWire cables

Anyway, long story short I think it’s finally in a workable position, so I’ll be speeding and driving without a seatbelt in cross country Canada while I wait for more FireWire cables to arrive

I’m never buying a computer from an era before usb boot again. The number of dvd-r coasters I’ve produced is embarrassing
Weirdly nostalgic though to start an operating system install and then sleeping to check on the install in the morning because it’s already been two hours and I’m tired

Nobody prepared me for how much a mini-firewire cable looks like a USB cable that was stepped on.
This gives me the same feeling nails on a chalk board does, what the hell.
Also my new cable I ordered arrived with rust, probably required certified spelunkers to locate my order in the warehouse.

A perplexingly relevant question: Anyone know of someone in the Toronto area looking to part ways with a Power Macintosh G3 blue and white? The FireWire interface in that can operate against the spec, and with the right Linux driver it can dump all traffic. Lots of FireWire research ahead of me.
