NORMAN HEATLEY developed the back-extraction technique for efficiently purifying penicillin in bulk. After the patent Heatley and the Oxford team had to pay to use the techniques they initially developed.

The 2004 Tsunami helped change disaster management for the better. Tsunami early warning systems have been dramatically improved (not everywhere though). Not every country has the funds to maintain expensive tsunami sensors. Also, most sensors do not detect tsunamis caused by volcanoes or landslides

A few years ago I discovered this artwork that I painted as a 5 year old just days after the disaster in school. Clearly I had seen the news coverage and it impacted me greatly.

The boxing day tsunami media coverage as well as "The Impossible" film focus intensley on white tourist perspectives of the disaster. The stories of hundreds of thousands of victims from Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia have recieved little coverage over the past 20 years.

How was she able to absorb it? Why was she able to fly? How was she able to absorb her mother? How did she get far enough away from earth in time? She would have had to travel faster than the speed of light?

These things really broke the suspension of disbelief.
