I do not understand the Labour government's reticence over defending the BBC and social media regulation. Their long-term survival basically depends on it. Their cowardice in the face of it may be the single thing they are most remembered for.

Bore da.
Yesterday There was a British Legion stall in the High St. I put a fiver in their tin but explained that I wouldn’t take a poppy.
The horror is staring all over again, Have we learnt nothing?
The huge soldier reached out and shook my hand.

Oh yes it very much is our business.

Reform is a magnet for racists without a home, a bin for failed Tory MPs without a future, a crèche for brainwashed children with no clue about anything, and a stage for morons who want to dress up in glittery flags, shouting.

It is anything but a serious government in waiting.

Symptomatic of how media deliberately feed anger: "asylum seekers in hotels up 8%" as the only headline being pushed.

Number much lower than Tory high, spending on hotels significantly down, applications processed faster, backlog down, overall immigration dramatically lower. But that won't do. ~AA

The argument against regulation is always the same: “It stifles growth and jobs.”

But just as tax cuts for corporations have not trickled down, regulatory cuts have not benefited most people.

Big companies enjoy bigger profits. Working people bear the costs.

PE has devoured care homes, vets, GP surgeries, high streets.

It buys/sells schools too, albeit private ones.

Education commodified. Parents complain about paying VAT on fees; silent on PE profiteering.

How long before PE is let into state schools?

Please repost, if like me, you will never accept Brexit.

It harms the British people. It was obtained through foreign interference and by far the worst abuses of democracy in modern British history, and it robs us of freedom and citizenship.

From the very same paragraph in Orwell's essay: "England has got to be true to herself. She is not being true to herself while the refugees who have sought our shores are penned up in concentration camps, and company directors work out subtle schemes to dodge their Excess Profits Tax."
Peroration from Robert Jenrick’s speech at the Roger Scruton conference today:

“In the words of George Orwell, ‘nothing ever stands still. We must add to our heritage, or lose it. We must grow greater or grow less. We must go forward or backward.’ I say, let’s go forward.”

Israel now *needs* Iran to respond.

Israel can then focus on itself being attacked & demand that Western “allies” rally round it.

Iran’s best move is not to respond now- and rather let global criticism of Israel over Gaza, West Bank and their strike on Iran to build to breaking point.

We‘ve done No Mow May for the third year. The lawn hasn’t magically turned into a flowery meadow but we have a variety of ‘weeds’. Yesterday a pair of goldfinches appeared and fed on dandelion and grass seeds, the first I‘ve seen here.
