Here's A Helpful Guide for insulting political figures without being trash. 🧵

Instead of calling ICE agents the "burger brigade" (or whatever other gross body shaming terms), insult how they are ripping families apart, violently assaulting people and actively filling concentration camps. (1/4)

Western Culture has trained us to feel horrible anytime we're not doing something "productive" because we must always be creating value for the owner class.

Been struggling to write because what I'm writing isn't "important."

But storytelling, by its nature, is important. Not just as escape, but as a way to feel seen. We love tales of fantastical journeys we'll never go on because we see glimpses of our own journey.

So maybe writing is important.

Belated dressing up for World Goth Day 🖤 Started the day with low confidence but this really helped! Of course, had to make a stop at my favorite coffee shop.

An excellent case for the #ChewyDecimalSystem: I just circled the grocery store 3 times and then, even after the customer service people told me exactly where to find it, still had to walk the aisle several times before I found it. I know I'm finding-stuff-challenged but Chewy Decimal would help

Happy World Goth Day 🖤🥀 It's beautifully rainy here today, but alas, The Horrors are keeping me from celebrating fully. Maybe I'll dress up sometime this weekend.

such a grim morning to be a trans american, knowing the fascists have at last come for medicaid coverage for adults too. something super fucked, something they've long signaled they'd do, something that will probably have myriad, devastating consequences...

The kids are alright. The "adults"...not so much.
The girl was happy to finish second to the trans girl. Transphobic politician spinning a lie to whip up a trans panic.

"No one was harmed by Soren's participation in the girls` track meet, but we are all harmed by the hateful rhetoric of bullies, like Rep. Libby,"

#AdoptaShelterPetDay Before you turn up your nose at pet store cats - many pet stores let shelters use space in their stores to house cats that are available for adoption! Please check to see if this is the case at your local pet store, many of those cats go a long time before being adopted.

Thoughts on what's going on in the UK:
-If you believe you're a woman, you're a woman
-The only people who need to know anything about your genitals are your doctor and people you intend to sleep with, the rest are just pervs
-You can do it, you can find new fiction to love, I did and it's great!

Just finished this book, and a line at the end perfectly encapsulates what I've been trying to do lately: "Take it day by day and spend time with the people I love."

Friends, I know you're excited to try protesting, but under no circumstances should you ever sign up to attend one. I'm suspicious of any org asking people to put their name on a list that is easily accessible via warrant or may even be public. You can just show up day of.

If you have to travel to more dangerous places like the US or Iran then it is probably safer to leave your normal phone at home and buy a cheap burner phone.

Even if you are a US citizen there is still a danger if your phone has ANYTHING truthful about the regime.

"Trump Derangement Syndrome" is nothing new. Mental health terms have long been used to gaslight / dismiss valid concerns (especially of women), from hysteria diagnoses (which have evolved into today's term "hysterical") to the use of "crazy" in modern slang.

It's been a rough few weeks for additional unrelated reasons on top of my country being dismantled so I could really use some positivity.

Does anyone on #medsky or elsewhere know if there is a map tracking reported cases of any/all of the big ones going around (covid, strep, influenza, bird flu)?

This approach literally saved my life. I made a promise to myself that as long as the sky is beautiful, I have to stick around. There have been a lot of gorgeous clouds and lovely sunsets on days when I really needed them.
a lot of people give out simplistic advice (which is often kinda true but far more difficult than they make out) for dealing with depression: exercise etc. my honest advice in that vein is embracing simple wonder in the world. enjoy a beautiful bird. not a joke. i really do recommend looking at bird
