Boring pedant, reformed former liberal (as in "Tankie" more than not). Politics, economics, war, NFL, mostly. Of minor infamy on Elmo's site for as long as that lasts.
How the fuck did I not know about this band until recently. Why did my friends who inflicted stuff like Depeche Mode like 30 years ago not introduce me. This is beautiful. Signed, that rare Tankie on here. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vcj...

Feeling really shitty and demoralized but this always cheers me up. Generally a hater of 90s Brit Pop but the Libertines were interesting and good, and not just for the nostalgia for insanely drugged out punk bands when I was a kid. Beautiful song. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Hum...

Trump is shallow and dumb in some ways but not all. He has an intuitive grasp on how power operates, and greed too. Those are what the world rotates around after all, it's not significant. A thoroughly bad guy but not a dummy exactly, like W and Reagan were. unherd.com/2025/02/why-...

Yep. With few exceptions (Schwarz, Welsh and Susan of Texas come to mind) that whole ecosystem was exposed as opportunistic frauds the second Blue Team won in 2008 and they figured they could make money licking Democratic boots, assuming they'd won that promised permanent majority.
I honestly think that the worst condemnation of "web 1.0" nostalgia is that the reactionary liberal blogosphere still exists. They should have killed themselves way more than the Something Awful guys.
Next few years youll see a cope narrative that the 00s internet was actually a kinder more accepting place than the one we have now. In fact expect a complete revision of the 2000s.

NEW: What exactly is the problem that socialists have with liberals, anyway? Is there any way we can reach some kind of compromise or understanding? All of your answers are within!

Recall the Strategic Response Group (SRG) was originally sold as a specialized “counterterror” squad that could quickly respond to ISIS-style attacks and since its inception in 2015 has only been used to harass Black Lives Matter, anti-genocide protestors and striking workers.
Today the NYPD deployed the Strategic Response Group (SRG) to harass and arrest striking Amazon workers.

As Mayor, I will disband the SRG, which has cost taxpayers millions in lawsuit settlements and brutalized countless New Yorkers exercising their first amendment rights.

You’ll be surprised to learn this is an FBI manufactured “plot” with FBI informants pushing the 18 year old student along the entire time
A freshman at George Mason University in Virginia is accused of plotting an attack at the Israeli consulate general in New York. He faces a charge of distributing information relating to weapons of mass destruction, according to federal court documents.

Yep. anytime someone tries to sell you on their new “AI tool” replace this with “hey checkout my new labor misclassification arbitrage scam”
Anyone who has had so much as a passing engagement with AI will immediately see that this emperor is in his birthday suit. Can we please agree not to push higher education even further into bargain basement mode through a new, AI-fuelled race to the bottom? Students deserve better than that.
Super excited to publicly launch "All Day TA" (http://www.alldayta.com), a product @joshgans.bsky.social and I have been working on with our team over the last year. Short version: if you teach in spring, you will want to use this! It's the future of higher education. A short thread: 1/x

Don't care if Destiny and Elon are autistic or have ADHD. I know a lot of people who are deep on those spectra (I think we all are, to some degree) who aren't psychopathic assholes. It's not a pass to devoting your life to being a toxic piece of shit.

Don't care. There's a lot I don't like about Nolan and his body of work (hit or miss, for me) but I really liked this one when I finally got around to it. I'll take theme and good acting over scientific accuracy (sorry Neil deGrasse Tyson).

Visually stunning, especially in 3D, but such a frustrating movie. There's a lot of hate for it but for me it was that there was a compelling meta-story there that Scott just failed to put to the screen. Oh well, we'll always have Alien and Thelma and Louise.

Still on the cursed bird site for now, trying to build a backup network here for when Elmo finally manages to destroy it for good. Met at least several dozen people on there who I genuinely like and care about I'd rather not lose touch with.

You know what would be cool for once? A police procedural TV series with a more or less normal protagonist, instead of the tiresome by now "supercop with a convoluted and tragic backstory".

Let me explain... 🧵 1/
