Deaths from alcohol use rose 37% following the increase in drinking during Covid - from stress and worry. Protecting mental health against hopelessness is crucial now during the current crisis.

Adult ADHD is under-treated despite having a real impact on people's lives. This study looked at treatments for adult ADHD - showed stimulants (like ritalin/adderall) and atomoxetine effective at improving symptoms. Better care for adult ADHD is needed.

Preparing a talk on smoking cessation and saw Google's AI overview on varenicline and depression – it’s flat out wrong. Says varenicline increases risk of depression/suicide, has black box warning, and claims psych disorders may be more vulnerable to serious side effects. All incorrect (see below).

ADHD is associated with a high risk of suicide across sexes and all ages. This risk is decreased by treating with meds: methylphenidate/amphetamines (aka ritalin/adderall). The protective effect is seen in children, adults, and veterans. (references below)
