Deaths from alcohol use rose 37% following the increase in drinking during Covid - from stress and worry. Protecting mental health against hopelessness is crucial now during the current crisis.

Stimulants on this list – despite decades of data showing that treating ADHD with stimulants reduces risky drug use and future addiction. Also protects against early death from suicide, overdose, and accidents. References below.

Trump’s latest executive order (that was no doubt written by psychopath RFK Jr.) goes after antidepressants.

As someone whose life was saved by them, you will pry my prozac from my cold dead hands.

Dopamine is involved in reward - and punishment, movement, and timing. Disorders of dopamine signaling - like ADHD - include issues with timing: from keeping track of time to paying attention (which requires organizing brain networks in concert with the outside world). Treatment (meds/therapy) help.

Adult ADHD is under-treated despite having a real impact on people's lives. This study looked at treatments for adult ADHD - showed stimulants (like ritalin/adderall) and atomoxetine effective at improving symptoms. Better care for adult ADHD is needed.

This study showed that detention/suspension increased risk of drug use by age 12. Kids with ADHD, depression, or other psych disorders are more likely to receive detention/suspension - and to use drugs early. It's time to replace punishment with prevention.

Preparing a talk on smoking cessation and saw Google's AI overview on varenicline and depression – it’s flat out wrong. Says varenicline increases risk of depression/suicide, has black box warning, and claims psych disorders may be more vulnerable to serious side effects. All incorrect (see below).

ADHD is associated with a high risk of suicide across sexes and all ages. This risk is decreased by treating with meds: methylphenidate/amphetamines (aka ritalin/adderall). The protective effect is seen in children, adults, and veterans. (references below)
