It was an absolute honour to speak at today's rally and demand housing for all in the face of legislation that will force more and more Ontarians into encampments. Housing is a human right!

If you agree that Council must consult with the expertise of housing rights experts before changing their encampment policy, you will have the opportunity to depute on it on December 9th at Executive Committee!

In my opinion, Council has shown that they cannot be trusted to uphold their human rights obligations in their decision-making on encampments. I am therefore recommending that they consult with the Housing Rights Advisory Committee on any changes to encampment policy.

For context on the Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit (COHB), which is one of the only ways to transition from shelters to permanent housing, Ford has cut funding to $8 million next year. TO has 16,000+ homeless and this will house ~900.
The 401 tunnel feasibility study is better funded.

I support @mayoroliviachow.ca's motion to explore the tools — including legal tools — they have to challenge the provisions of Bill 60, which will cause mass evictions in Toronto and beyond. Other municipal governments must follow their lead. secure.toronto.ca/council/agen...

All to say: this has been trial-ballooned before, and here it is again — potentially privatizing public water. Ask me about it: it was in my portfolio when I worked at the legislature, and I coordinated advocacy in Peel.
All the more reason to remain vigilant whenever Ford ostensibly "backs down."
