I was proud to be thrown out of the Ontario Legislature today as the Ford government shamefully passed #Bill60.

We won't be silent while this government makes more Ontarians homeless.

It was an absolute honour to speak at today's rally and demand housing for all in the face of legislation that will force more and more Ontarians into encampments. Housing is a human right!
November 22, 2025 at 11:24 PM
What an energizing day! Thousands of people showed up for our National Housing Day Rally to say NO to #Bill60 and attacks on renters!

Even though Doug Ford is trying to take away our homes, the Ontario Legislature is OUR house — the people's house — and together, we WILL evict him from office!

In my opinion, Council has shown that they cannot be trusted to uphold their human rights obligations in their decision-making on encampments. I am therefore recommending that they consult with the Housing Rights Advisory Committee on any changes to encampment policy.
November 19, 2025 at 11:23 PM
Last week, City Council voted to make changes their encampment protocol that violate human rights.

So this morning, I introduced a letter at the Housing Rights Advisory Committee (HRAC) to challenge Council's unilateral authority to revise encampment policy: secure.toronto.ca/council/agen...

#Bill60 will likely be passed this week, and it will grow homelessness across Ontario — something our food banks, shelters, and municipalities do not have the resources to address.

When you wonder why encampments are growing in your community, remember Bill 60.

My remarks today at the OLA:

Join us on National Housing Day (Sat., Nov. 22) for a rally from the offices of landlord lobbyists FRPO to Queen's Park! FRPO are working with the Ford government to make us homeless.

Being neutral on legislation like #Bill60 that makes it easier for Ontarians to become homeless is not an option.

Homelessness will dramatically increase in Toronto over the winter, primarily because of provincial and federal funding cuts. Because of this, Toronto's Warming Centres will not be able to meet the need.

Proud to have authored a letter with @nodemovictions.bsky.social, co-signed by 134 orgs, demanding that Premier Ford repeal #Bill60 — which we call the "Create Encampments Faster" Act.

Ontario can't afford even weaker rental protections and more homelessness.

In 2024, a draft report recommended that Peel Region's water/wastewater services transition from the region to a provincially regulated utility. With Doug Ford, the fear is that uploading water signals an intention to sell that public corporation to the private sector. Why else would they upload it?
October 28, 2025 at 5:02 PM
The Ford government is looking at eliminating security of tenure for tenants. This is massive. In practice, this would effectively eliminate rent control in Ontario!
October 23, 2025 at 8:25 PM
Honestly, look at this shit. When tenants called for an end to LTB delays, they didn't call for an end to justice. That's what Bill 60 does: it eliminates backlogs by eliminating avenues for justice for tenants. When tenants called for an end to eviction loopholes, Ford widened them. Heinous.
October 23, 2025 at 7:53 PM
Bill 60 is outrageous in a province already inundated with mass homelessness.

It further limits justice for tenants at the LTB, expedites evictions, and further incentivizes Landlord's Own Use evictions by slashing compensation to tenants.

Unconscionable!

This is shocking overreach: not only is the Ford government attempting to have a publicly elected official removed from office, they are also attempting to ban them from a future election — all in the name of "accountability."

This is not accountability. This is a vile assault on democracy.

My colleague and Parkdale neighbour Mskwaasin Agnew has been released by the Israeli government. I'm ashamed that our Parkdale MP, Karim Bardeesy, would not speak to her advocates about her detention. Instead, his staff called the police, and eight people were arrested.

24% of revenue from TO's speed cameras goes to the province, 41% to Vision Zero initiatives. But Premier Ford has no interest in funding evidence-based public programs — or even the province itself.

His government exists to protect insiders and shitheads speeding in school zones.
October 8, 2025 at 5:39 PM
A reminder that Ford has repeatedly used or threatened to use the Notwithstanding Clause to undermine democracy by:

- Limiting third party election advertising
- Slashing Toronto City Council mid-election
- Undermining education workers' labour rights
- Evicting encampments
- Removing bike lanes

A lot of attention is being paid to fringe voices who blame homelessness and toxic drugs on organizations trying to address these issues. But yesterday, hundreds of people dropped by Parkdale Queen West CHC to show support for harm reduction services and the reopening of the Gwynne Parkette.

How many encampment residents have been displaced to nowhere since the IDP was enacted? My motion, which was passed, asked for this data and more, which is central to improving the IDP and upholding the human right to housing — even if, sadly, it cannot help anyone today. /5

As a member of the City of Toronto's Housing Rights Advisory Committee, one (small) thing I was able to do today is request information on how the "Enhanced Outreach Model" — built upon the work I did with others in 2021, and as embedded in the IDP — is performing. /4

Toronto! Do you live and work in Parkdale? Your neighbours are organizing in support of our local supervised consumption site, which has been overwhelmed since the closure of other sites. Our Rally to Rescind Bill 6 was heard loud and clear, with support from the NDP, Greens, and Liberals. But Doug Ford expedited the Bill's passing today bc of a new rule that bans protestors from entering the legislature for 24 hrs after a protest. He kept us out to pass Bill 6!
May 29, 2025 at 6:33 PM
TOMORROW! We are the Encampment Justice Coalition, and we're Rallying to Rescind Bill 6 across Ontario! With support from the Ontario NDP, Greens, and Liberals, we are asking Premier Ford to rescind Bill 6, which gives homeless people jail time and $10,000 fines — not housing.

Join us in your city!
May 28, 2025 at 3:06 PM
Join me this Thursday, May 29th at 11:30am at Queen's Park for the Rally to Rescind Bill 6! Help us tell Premier Ford that homelessness isn't a crime.

Give people housing, not jail time!

Can't make it to Queen's Park? Join our Ottawa, Port Hope, or Kingston rallies at the same time!
