"capitalism has lifted billions out of poverty and proven the most effective economic system for the betterment of living conditions"

weird how it didnt do that for the first 300 years of its existence, waiting instead for the existence of the ussr and rise of the ccp to get started on that

"its all narrative (always serves the ruling class somehow)

people pick the narratives that personally appeal to them (human nature just randomly is fascist or class conscious)

theres no solution (not a failure of my world view just a fact)"

now you dont have to read any more liberal idealists

You can't say "we get to vote for Kamala without endorsing genocide" and then get mad when Republicans say "we get to vote for Trump without endorsing his deportation program"!

'left' is a social construct. how we define it has a material effect on power and how its distributed. consider for example how the concept of 'person' has historically been used to justify slavery, strip abortion rights, dehumanize lgbtq+ people, and empower corporations

"Capitalist realism... holds that no matter the flaws or externalities, capitalism is the only possible means of operation... 'reflexive impotence'... describes a phenomenon where people recognize the flawed nature of capitalism, but believe there are no means of effecting change."

marxism is not crude materialism. marx argued that the end of capitalism would be precipitated by class consciousness. notice that class consciousness is something mental. it's an idea but its rooted in material reality. there is a dialectical relationship between ideology and economic base

im sure this wont ever happen but on the off chance someone somewhere somehow mispresents marxism and makes some silly claim about historical materialism this passage does a good job of clarifying it

capitalists do what theyve done for centuries. liberals refuse to think outside the present news cycle. they mock anybody who thinks the past is relevant. to them history is disconnected. to them only the present matters. but without the past they completely fail to understand it

i may not agree with it but i will always defend the republicans god given right to brutalize minorities when they have enough power to ensure they get away with it

bad news: generative AI corporations are accelerating theft and plagiarism to fuel accumulation
good news: generative AI is a grift and the bubble is going to crash sooner rather than later
bad news: capitalism thrives on failure and systemic crises deepen exploitation

imagine if hypothetically someone wrote 'all men are created equal' while owning slaves. i know its crazy but now imagine everybody was totally satisfied just by those words being said while ignoring material reality. now imagine if this was the basis for an entire nation. i know its crazy but

Marx is not trying to predict the wind. He’s not trying to predict a single bullet. He’s talking about the organization of society into economic classes throughout history and how the groundwork is laid for the next one etc

His said: capitalism will end in a new mode of production or common ruin

1/2 the political situation of the us over the past decade:
the democratic party in the us has tied itself to neoliberalism, with predictably devastating consequences. workers see prices rise, wages stagnate, and social services crumble. meanwhile corporate profits and ceo salaries skyrocket.

i remember in presidential elections when the media used to talk about the importance of 'which candidate would you most like to have a beer with?'

i think i realized that was a really bad metric when i thought about how emperor palpatine would rank above every president in history

it’s very funny to be like “democrats need to step back and let americans suffer and die so they get that living under a fascist regime is bad.” they were already doing that. you didn’t need to say anything
