Let me be clear: Publishing as a whole does not pay authors their worth and for a lot of us the only steady money we get is through Patreon money. Now, add on being an indie author.

Faced with steep penalties, platforms have erred on the side of over-censoring. So a law intended to restrict many teenagers' access to explicit sexual content also effectively denies them information about sex education, LGBTQ+ topics, and even international conflicts.

But in the past several months, payment processors and digital store platforms have started severely restricting the kinds of sexual and adult/18+ content allowed in their terms of service. And of course all LQBTQ+ content is at risk of getting swept up in these bans.

Australia even took the extraordinary step of banning anyone under 16 from using any social media at all. This will probably be about as effective as the OSA, since many young people will find ways around the verification methods. And in the meantime, it puts everyone's personal information at risk.
The Australien Government has made an ad about the Social Media Ban for Under-16s, and it's surprisingly honest and informative.
