I have a nugget of a thought about how the way the wife deflects his emotional outreach towards a reminder of his underperforming team is an unwitting summary of how American sports are used to keep people in a Truman show -esque state of oblivion but I'm too dumb to articulate it better than this

Reminds me of the fact that for the last few years I had never seen Jance and kind of assumed, the way he was hyped up in media, that he looked something like the left image. Was extremely shook this summer when I found out he was actually a bearded baby of the year contestant.
