4. Also in non fiction I'm dipping in to these - again, all part of thinking about death and dying and how to find meaning and calm - interesting how many similarities to the Bible. Makes me wonder whether they all emerged from the same sort of aural tradition. #devonbookhour

3. In audio book. 2 books
i)Walking Each Other Home by Ram Dass and Mirabai Bush - helping me to make sense of my sister's (and other) death
ii) Wolf Winter by Cecilia Eckbak - set in Sweden - just started this one but am engrossed #devonbookhour

2. In Non-fiction I'm loving Rory Stewarts The Places In Between. His account of walking across Afghanistan. Fascinating, though I can't quite decide if he's courageous or reckless (or maybe both) #devonbookhour

I've loads of books on the go this week - all for very different reasons #devonbookhour. How about you?
1. Novel - Gutenbergs Apprentice - a very enjoyable story based around the invention of the printing press. I'd never really understood before how political this was ...

Good to know that you're enjoying the book. It sounds really interesting. Another book I'd recommend on that basis is attached. Its a novel but reads like investigative journalism. Very very clever and well-written.

The Witching Hour, a collection of ghost stories featuring new spooky short stories from contemporary authors such as Bridget Collins, Stuart Turton and Kiran Millwood Hargrave looks fun. #devonbookhour

Lots of readingthis week. Rumi. I love his gentle wisdom and @nikitagill.bsky.social who writes so powerfully; for non-fiction - I finisshed Tender Maps and now reading The Places in Between (really engaging) and for fiction I've just started Gutenberg's Apprentice, which I'm loving #devonbookhour

Several things on my mind. After the death of my sister, do you find comfort in books/writing, as I do? Travel writing that takes you somewhere new and fascinating (I'll share a few I've read/am reading) and what took your fancy this Halloween? Or did you avoid it? #devonbookhour is from 8PM

Funny day here in Devon. One minute lovely sunshine, next heavy rain. A cosy reading kind of day. I'm racing through this one by Kate Hamer. How about you?

Tsundoku A Japanese phrase that means that stack of unread books which represents curiosity, anticipation, and the idea that someday you’ll get to them. 📚 My trip is postponed but I'll get there - not sure I'll ever clear by tsundoku though 😅

Waverley, a gift from my daughter, is acclained as beign the first romantic historic novel in teh western tradition. A bit wordy (very much of its time) but beautifully written and engaging. I guess books become classics for a reason. Which ones do you love? #devonbookhour

I'm very much enjoying Tender Maps, a thoughtful examination of our relationship to place. It is beautifully written and focuses on the atmosphere that we feel in different places - whether cities or countryside. Does that speak to you? #devonbookhour

Happy Diwali to all those who celebrate the festival - I'd love to hear from you about how you celebrate #devonbookhour
