I am genuinely at a loss for a precedent here. Very, very few states in history ever enjoyed the success of the USA even on a regional level and I just can’t think of any of them dynamiting it all for absolutely no gain

What has been breaking my brain a little is the popular "Schumer calling for congressional oversight is bad; everybody should call for impeachment" take.

Impeachment is 100% a dead end. It'll do nothing and make no one happy. Congressional oversight actually has a possibility of doing something.

There is no crisis. There is no pressing act of war. None of the usual excuses of Presidential authority to take immediate action are present except "Donald Trump says so."

There is a world where some intervention in Venezuela was legal, but we are in the explicitly ILLEGAL one. That's important!

Sure, but consider the possibility Trump does not in fact know a single thing about the oil market, and the Scheming Viziers (who have their own reasons to want war with Venezuela) are using oil as their way to sell him on this.

5. I have no respect for Donald Trump. He diminishes everything he touches. But focusing on him right now is like being bitten by your neighbor’s unleashed, unfenced rabid dog and focusing on the dog. If we don’t hold his enablers to account we’re going to keep getting bit.
