For what it’s worth, here’s my take on events in the #Oireachtas today

A healthy democracy is dependent upon us having an effective, empowered opposition

Any act by government groupings to undermine or limit the effectiveness of the opposition is serious and must be challenged

I failed history in my junior cert, so this feels very nice.I loved history.Unfortunately, the only way that I can learn about history is by locking myself in a room with the textbook, pacing back and forth rapidly, flapping my fingers and listening to slipknot. They weren't too fond of that in school

"It is cold, after all. Is it not cold? Am I wrong? How is this an argument? It’s freezing, mate. I’m freezing. Are you not freezing? I’m so cold that I’ve ended up writing an entire column about how cold it is, and I’m writing it from one of the least cold parts of the country."

Deeply wrong. The mission statement of the Auschwitz memorial is to preserve the memory of the crimes commited. When you don't arrest a person that the highest international criminal court is accusing of genocide, then you are erasing the memory of crimes.

A few years ago I made a series of mini drawings of interesting Irish women (available as a print here www.ciaraioch.com/artprints/p/...) - this thread is a little information on the women featured, partly because it's useful, but mostly because I'm trying to be sustainable by recycling content.

The idea of a "rotating Taoiseach" is utter bollocks.
Elect either the leader of the biggest party or the best person in government parties suited to the job, then shut up and get on with it.
It's the most important job in Ireland, not a time-share for fragile entitled egos.

Reflecting further on Kanturk, and its fallout. The media have not done enough to explain how disability services/education access is a *massive deal* on the doorstep. I truly think that it is so misunderstood by journalists themselves, they don't go near it. #GE24
