Baked Brie in a Bread Bowl with Cranberry, Pecan and Rosemary

Brie and cranberries are always a wonderful combination, but baked brie in a crusty golden bread bowl topped with homemade cranberry sauce and a pecan and rosemary crumb is another level of deliciousness.

Eggs in Purgatory

I’ll be making this tomorrow morning for Christmas Day breakfast. A simple, comforting Italian dish from Naples: eggs gently poached in a rich tomato sauce flavoured with garlic, basil and chilli. Perfect served straight from the pan with garlic bruschetta for dipping.

“If the Christian world is to honour the meaning of Christmas, it must turn its gaze to Bethlehem — not the imagined one, but the real one, a town whose people today still cry out for justice, dignity and peace.”

A powerful reminder of what is at stake for Palestinians and other oppressed people.
Christmas is not a Western story – it is a Palestinian one
Christmas is a story of empire, injustice and the vulnerability of ordinary people caught in its path.

I spent time in a hospice in Roscommon and it was very sad but also moving and strangely life affirming.

Almond Macaroons

Crisp on the outside with a soft, chewy centre, these macaroons make a lovely Christmas gift, and are fabulous on top of a trifle. Just 3 ingredients, plus some almonds to decorate them, they wonderfully easy to make. Perfect for some Christmas baking with the kids

This speech given by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made me feel reassured by Australia's response
A masterclass in leadership by Australian Prime Minister Albanese on Sydney Bondi beach shooting

"Australia is stronger than the cowards who attacked innocent people today. Australia will never submit to division, violence or hatred. We will see justice done and we will come through this together."

This man, identified in some reports as an immigrant and a Muslim, is an absolutely here on so, so many levels.

It’s here to find any hope in a moment like this, but he is a powerful symbol decency, courage and humanity at its best.
Ahmed al Ahmed, 43, has been identified as the man who disarmed one of the Sydney attackers.

Ahmed was shot by the second shooter, who was firing from a bridge. He suffered 2 gunshot wounds and is undergoing surgery.

Folks, if you are going to jump on this thread to link this murderous attack to the horrific crimes of the State of Israel, or to somehow suggest it as a reaction to Zionism, please jog on.

Jewish people as a group are not responsible for either of the above.

Your bigotry is showing.
Horrific news emerging from Sydney.

A murderous attack on its Jewish community as they meet to celebrate Hanukkah.

Antisemitism is never acceptable in any form - this is unbridled hate at its absolute worst.

Please hold the Jewish community in your thoughts and in your hearts.

Love to those in the Jewish community who are grieving tonight and solidarity with those who continue to come together to fight against all these forms of racist violence.
We are horrified and shaken in the wake of the mass shooting at a Chanukah event in Bondi this evening, which has left at least ten people dead and injured many more.

This is the first night of Chanukah when we gather with loved ones and friends to light the Chanukiah. 1/4

Remember: The oligarchs who control our economy and democracy seek to divide us so they can become more powerful.

They want us to turn on each other so we don't look up and see where all the wealth and power have gone.

Don't fall for it.

Ireland?

The Irish government certainly, but I’m not sure that Ireland as a society is fully onboard with this.

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.
