I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Wow. Declaring war on your own citizens.
Just wow.
1. This is one of the most insane statements ever delivered by a presidential spokesperson in U.S. history. Totally disconnected from reality.

2. There is either going to be a civil war or abject Democratic surrender to autocracy. They are telling this you, to your face, in explicit terms.
Leavitt: "President Trump will end the radical left's reign of terror in Portland once and for all. The president has directed Secretary Hegseth to provide all necessary troops to protect war-ravaged Portland."

The US is in denial.
The "several" countries the Forbes article mentions, is actually 28:

Country Status
Australia Suspended most parcel shipments to the U.S.
Austria Stopped standard parcel shipments to the U.S.
Belgium Suspended packages containing goods to the U.S.

@bladeofthes.bsky.social is perhaps conflating the wealth tax rate for individuals (his suggested 2%) with the amount of tax revenue raised by a wealth tax.
3.6% of all tax revenue in Switzerland comes from Wealth Tax.

That would £38bn in the UK, and Switzerland has 20% millionaires.

Have they left?

A 2% wealth tax in the UK would raise £40bn a year.

An interesting dive into Greenland ice sheet science...
If you've seen the Broadway version of Frozen, you'll have special appreciation for this @voosen.me feature in @science.org today: "The site looked [...] flat, white, windswept. But Dahl-Jensen and her team had long since figured out how to create hygge, or Danish coziness, in bleak spots." 🧪

All your carbon shall be methanol

Arguments for mopping up all carbon in wastes and residues into methanol; use it to supply sectors that can't be electrified

TL,DR: methanol is a liquid; easier to transport/store than CH4/H2/CO2; costs scale down nicely to multi-MW size

That's the way, uh huh, uh huh - we like it.
Although abortion in Switzerland is not allowed in late pregnancy without a medical reason, the high court ruled that if that's the case then the father has no right to second guess the law/authorities and dictate what the mother can and can't do.
Swiss court ruling: only mothers have legal say in abortion cases

The AI facility in Musk’s new Gigafactory in Texas will house 50,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs. Each one consumes about 3,740 kWh annually. So *just to power the GPUs,* Musk will need 187GWh per year. This is higher annual consumption than some entire countries.
