With so many Orange-tip about at the minute I spent a few minutes checking the cuckoo flowers for eggs. Counted six O-tip and two Green-veined White on the first ten flowers.

Absolutely amazing to hear Cuckoo back in Lullymore! They're all but gone from farmland where l live and sadly can only find refuge in bogs.

The Sand Martin are wasting no time this year. With the sunshine lots have paired up & are building nests. The contrast between this yr & last couldn't be greater. Sand Martin are hugely weather dependant. Cool & wet conditions make for low productivity. Let's hope this year is kind to them.

So delighted to spot my first Small tortoiseshell of the year. Also very relieved to see one at all after their scarcity in 2024. The importance of #dandelions can't be overstated.

Lastly the frog population has grown steadily each year which in turn helps sustain a huge number & variety of species.
For the day that's in it let's celebrate our #wetlands.
