The composite image of the Centaurus A galaxy shows a complex visual structure, with distinctive features such as the central dust lane and the relativistic jet originating from the supermassive black hole, which can be highlighted as follows: the dust lane cuts prominently through the center of the galaxy, appearing as a broad, well-defined, opaque band of gray. This band cuts across the image diagonally, creating a strong contrast with the brighter regions around it. The dust appears dense and opaque, partially obscuring the light from stars and other emissions in the central part of the galaxy. The relativistic jet, originating from the supermassive black hole at the center, is visible as an elongated structure, extending outward from the nucleus. In the image, this jet appears mostly bluish-gray when crossing the dust lane, and turns orange outside and appears as a streak running away from the center, with a slightly curved appearance. At its center, the galaxy has an irregular shape, with an elongated and distorted appearance, resulting from the collision between two galaxies. The central part appears dense and bright, with a vaguely elliptical structure. The colors are: white (visible light from ESO), orange (submillimeter emission from APEX) and red (infrared from Spitzer) that mix in a vortex of light and dust. The white lines of magnetic fields, detected by SOFIA, follow paths parallel to the dust lane in the outer regions, but distort into curves and tangles near the center, where the jet and the black hole influence the magnetic field. The image conveys a sense of cosmic motion, with the dust lane and the relativistic jet as the visual protagonists of this dynamic scene, against a black cosmic background full of bright points.
