Fair point, but later in his career, Lovecraft said in correspondence that people would be appalled at his racist writings (not his fiction, but poetry, articles in racist newsletters, etc.). So, he at least assumed that such writings wouldn't have been acceptable, even then.

This is why I hate it when people try to whitewash Howard or Lovecraft (both of whose works I enjoy) as mere products of their time. No, even by the standards of the day, they were bigots. Do you know how racist you had to be as a white man in the 1920s to pull that off? Pretty f**king racist.

It's definitely worth a watch. I can't explain it, but it seems like it'd be a good movie to watch during the day with the shades drawn, when you've called out sick from work.

Not bad, but not great. Rated PG. Kind of a slow burn, but should have been even slower, IMO. You can see hints of Refn's later style here. Anticlimactic. But, hey, it has James Remar in it, so it's got that going for it.
