Gonna miss @crampell.bsky.social's columns because I read -- not watch -- analysis and opinions. Especially well written and thoughtful pieces.

How Uncertain Tariff and Economic Plans Could Hurt Businesses
The lack of clarity about tariffs and other policies could hurt hiring and investing. But the strong U.S. economy should provide a buffer.

Trump just withdrew the United States from the World Health Organization.

The US is now the only country in the world besides Liechtenstein to not be a member of the organization.

Great piece. I think [emphasis added] that the tug of war is between political points ("Save dozens of jobs in my district!") and diffuse benefits ("That's ten cents less for millions"). All *economics* are local?
Economists are in the wilderness. Politicians and the public have rejected their advice on everything from trade to climate change. They held comparatively little sway under Biden, and stand to hold less under Trump. Can they find their way back to influence?

Economists Are in the Wilderness. Can They Find a Way Back to Influence? (Gift Article)
Economists have long helped to shape policy on issues like taxes and health care. But flawed forecasts and arcane language have cost them credibility.

The problem is people were told to invest in the American Dream -- even though it's a highly illiquid, immobile, undiversified asset class. Build more, prices level, seniors get cranky. Another example of skewed expectations.
The evidence is clear: building a lot of new housing at all income levels keeps prices down—and reduces homelessness. This great new video by @justineunderhill.bsky.social will likely be the first thing I send people getting interested in the housing crisis.

Had a relative praise EM for his "business" approach to government. Problems: 1. Taxpayers hate risk 2. Incumbents hate change 3. Contractors lobby. Good luck!
