The Joint Finance Committee wrapped its 2nd week of hearings with presentations from the Department of Corrections, Department of Safety & Homeland Security, DELJIS, and the Department of Justice.

Next week, the committee will reconvene to continue its work on the state’s FY 2027 Operating Budget.

Over the course of the reassessment committee’s work, members repeatedly heard concerns about non-residential properties being under-assessed in New Castle County, including several high-profile examples that raised serious questions about equity in the system.

On Thursday, the Joint Finance Committee wrapped up its first week of hearings, where members heard from several state agencies/organizations. The committee will return on Tuesday to continue working on Delaware's FY 2027 Annual Budget.

On Tuesday, Rep. Chukwuocha announced new bipartisan legislation, also known as Eric's ID Law, designed to ensure more equitable treatment for individuals with nonapparent disabilities during encounters with law enforcement.

The General Assembly is officially back in session!

Yesterday began by honoring law enforcement and continued with the passage of SB 106, which would require school districts and charter schools to adopt policies governing cell phone use during school hours.

On Monday, the reassessment committee held its final hearing of a series of meetings focused on examining Delaware’s recent statewide property reassessment.

The hearing focused on public education and included presentations from school districts, education professionals, and education advocates.

Residents in New Castle County should receive updated bills by early December at the latest, with bills due on December 31, 2025.
