The use of blue, grey, and silver is really discordant with the rest of the Metro system. If they can figure out how to make warm tones, brown stripes, etc. feel clean and modern, it'll be much more aligned with the iconic station/pylon designs.

the warm vs. cold lighting

FOLKS... I didn't dare jinx it... My interest in Metro's under-the-radar brand refresh, using BROWN and other warm tones, a new logo lockup, etc. was ALWAYS about the remote possibility that meant they could be rethinking their blue/silver sterile/cold design for the new trains.

Wow.

Bonus: Baltimore subway In NO WAY OUT (1987)...

Kevin Costner runs into the Georgetown Red Line station and emerges from a clearly-marked Metro entrance inside of the Old Post Office

Also always fun to see the LA Metro sub in for DC's.

"Looks like federal housing. Concrete, glass. Egg crates."

"Ouch. About a thousand of those in the District!"

MINORITY REPORT (2002) is shockingly specific, and wrong, about DC residential architecture?

It's really a shame there aren't more viewsheds of St. Matthews church like this around DC. This view from Jefferson Place is wonderful, so unique!

The WETA documentaries about each DC decade are great. Anyone know where to watch the 70s one?

Highly recommend!

19th and L is downtown’s best intersection. In my line of sight are office workers having lunch, tourists walking from their hotel, a couple of people with Nordstrom Rack shopping bags, and some kids on a (?) field trip. Plus tons of public seating, green space, and wide sidewalks.

I believe this yet somehow I felt more comfortable being outside than in years past. Maybe I actually succeeded when I said I’d conquer dc summers with better clothing?
August 1, 2025 at 1:41 AM
I should get around to mocking up my ideal update to the Radom set. I would..

-Settle on “DC” hats over W.
-keep the home red/away blue dichotomy
-otherwise… not much else?

It’s a complete package fit for a storied franchise. I want to wear a singular cap that reps my city, like NY, LA, etc.

NEVER show a NIMBY the reverse angle of this block

Of course, because their branding is a jumbled mess borne out of constant tinkering for its own sake, it only happened with a mis-matched bastardized version of their old "DC" logo (without the red trim) and their recent, inexplicably bad road jersey.
July 29, 2025 at 1:55 PM
They did it. 20 years in, the Nationals finally wore a jersey + hat combo that says "Washington DC." A remarkable day in uni history. @toddradom.bsky.social @sportslogos.net
