How many people boycotted Walmart this year for their holiday spending? Once I heard that they rolled back their DEI policies I refused to spend one more penny at Walmart starting immediately and all through Christmas. Anything I would’ve normally gotten from Walmart, I got from Target instead.

I’m currently grieving my relationship with my sister who voted for him AGAIN, knowing me and my wife, as well as a trans niece, two gay nephews, and a trans nephew’s rights were on the line. After a huge argument, she dug her heels in more saying it’s her God-given right to vote 4 whoever she wants

(I tried repeatedly to inform her about Trump) She (as well as most of my family) are also anti-vaxers and won’t listen to reason. But more than not respecting my opinion, I realize she just doesn’t care about me enough to not only not vote for him, but to not feel an ounce of guilt about doing so 😢

It got very ugly and we haven’t spoken since that day. I wake each day, depressed about Trump being elected, but also, the realization that I’m mourning my relationship with my sister. I roll it around in my head every day, and keep coming to the conclusion that she doesn’t respect my opinion -

They wanted no parts of that. I was told I was acting like a child in Walmart that hadn’t gotten their way and was now throwing myself on the floor in a tantrum, and the list goes on. So I now wake questioning myself, even though I know my truth, it’s still hard to not be full of self doubt.

I’m a mental health therapist & do a lot of trauma work. While all of us (that don’t belong to THAT CULT) are enraged, I would like to bring light to the grief many of us feel as we cut ties with people we may have known for decades/family members. I was reminded of this today in one of my sessions.

I’m now the daughter of a Former Trump voter.

I was 14 when I understood my dad's politics did not protect me. Over the years it's been a space of violence between us compounded by the other challenges of having him as my biological father & the conflict inside when you lose your mom at 21. Dad did Mergers & Acquisitions but when a young adult at Georgetown with Clinton he was a democrat. He never told me. I found it in the yearbook when Clinton was elected almost a secret he didn't want told. By the time he was at Harvard with George W. he was a Republican. Dad donated once to a campaign in his 76 years. It was the first Trump campaign and he believed in him. Dad is the man who says all lives matter to the beautiful black young man who is the grandchild of his partner. The nazi memorabilia owned by his sister is for its value he says. Her cats were named Adolf and Eva but that wasn't intentional he said once. It was about their love. So today this little girl in the picture has a dad who voted to protect me. It's a strange feeling and not one I know well. But my heart is lighter and I'm reminded that people grow and change and maybe just maybe I made a difference. We change minds one vote at a time. This one took decades.

My sister (31F) has been my best friend for my entire life. We are really close. Last night, we went to my sister’s house for a few drinks and snacks (something we do often). We were all drunk so we inevitably started talking about politics. My sister freaked out when she realized my husband and I voted for Trump because she assumed we’d vote for Kamala. Things got heated and my husband ended up saying, “your body, my choice” to her as a joke. I had seen the joke circulating online so I knew what he was referencing and laughed. My husband and I are both pro-choice and it was just a joke. My sister started screaming at us to leave after he said it. I tried calming her down by saying he was just joking but she wouldn’t listen. She asked me if I was okay with what he said and I said yes because he was only joking. He has dark humor so he often says shocking things for laughs. She ended up physically pushing us out of her house and slammed the door in our faces. We called an uber and by the time we were home, I had received a long text from my sister. She said she never wants to see me or my husband again because of the joke he made. I was devastated because she is my sister who I love more than anything. I tried telling her that politics is not worth destroying our relationship. I told her I’d never let anyone hurt her and it was just a stupid joke that was circulating online. She said she will never feel safe in my husband’s presence ever again and that she will never see me the same. This is the first time my husband has ever said a joke like that to her so she has no reason to feel unsafe around him. I think she misunderstood the joke and thought he was threatening violence when he was just making an abortion joke. I understand the joke was inappropria… Away-Research4299 • 3d This is not an overreaction, at least not to her. It doesn’t matter if you disagree - if you tell me you’re sad and I tell you “I disagree” it doesn’t really mean much, does it. And you don’t “know” that she will regret it - no one “knows” the future. You simply hope that she will. You might be surprised - she might have other people in her life who will be fine, maybe even better from her perspective, substitutes. And lastly, I think you and your sister have different definitions of what love means. You think love means you put up with bad behavior from your loved ones and she thinks love means you don’t behave badly towards your loved ones. You’re entitled to yours and she to hers. I’d recommend moving on.
